Hell, I lost my ambient air gauge and volt meter to tweeters. Ordered a Glow shift dual air pressure gauge to replace the fuel gauge and then ordered a matching oil pressure gauge. Who needs a gas gauge. Not this guy.

Roadie in need of help

Ok fella's! finished the monroe air mod...put in energy suspension bushings..first time out today in MN windy as He77....had to ride at least 110 PSI to reduce bottoming out.....with wife on my 2011 RG Custom.

I'm 170lb wife is 110 lb.....not having good luck here... vibrates like a bastard at 80 PSI and under alone or with wife on back...Viair 0-160 gauge terrible to read going down the road jumps anywhere from 80-120 psi depending on speed this is the second gauge gauge Viair has sent me.....going to pick up a liquid filled or a digital gauge. the up side is the ride is much better with the wife on at highway speeds and 110+ psi...( maybe the gauge is so friggin off that i dont really know where i'm at for psi hell at this point i could be at 50psi.

Any help on the shake and juttering?......i am running 1" lowering blocks not sure if this would effect the ride or not but going to pull them tomorrow and see if that helps. factory rear wheel and rubber and a 21" up front..I put in Progressive monotubes -2" I always use factory torque values. Man am i frustrated!!

i think that some one posted that, but i cant find where.

Ive got everything but the shocks, will get those today and should have this on by the weekend.

 

They need to be a 1/2 inch longer than the stock bolts

Not sure about that company but if get on Amazon and search for the viair compressor you'll see basically everything everyone else used in the "customers also bought" section on the page. You can use that until you get the part numbers from someone

 

Has anyone ever managed to use a latching relay with a digitally set pressure sensor so a momentary button will air the DIY system up to a set PSI automatically? I don't want to have to hold the button and I want to set it up with a 2 button wireless switch. It should be wired so one push of a button and it will air up to it's preset level automatically.

 

Not particuarly, but I do know that Ride Rite airbags company has a system they sell for about $500.00 or something like that comes with a small similar viair compressor and electronic setup that is wireless and can be preset.

I'm actually thinking about getting this for my truck when towing.

Instead of a latching relay I would look at a time delay relay. I deal with these in my line of work but the problem will be getting one that can be powered by 12 VDC. Everything my industry is 24 but you could check with ABB or IDEC. Good luck.

 

OK, just read through this hole thread and I have one question. Is this mod good for short guys? I am currently using a 2" drop and feel comfortable on my bike. Is there more suitable air shocks available? Maybe bike specific

 

There's are several aftermarket shocks available that are better than the stock shocks. You have to remember that this is a Do It Yourself air shock setup. Again there are better or more expensive systems available. For the time and money I think it was worth it for me to do. As far as being short all i can say is when it's full compressed the shocks are only about 9" which would basically be riding a rigid hardtail. Some people put limiting straps on to prevent it from going to full extention which is about 14". As far as comfort I'd say theyes are about on par with the stock shocks but really shine when you have weight on the bike. Without actually doing this yourself you'll never be able to know for sure if it's for you or not.

 

But with being comfortable at - 2" would I be able to have enough air pressure to keep from bottoming out(im @250lb)? I really want to do this but not if I'm going to be on my tip toes when I stop.

 

I would imagine if you put the straps on them at whatever height you want then basically you'll be able to keep it at that height and fill the shock to whatever pressure you need to keep from bottoming out. The straps can be made at your local hardware store for a couple bucks. I had a set made but havent put them on yet

 

I've been having problems with the Monroe's leaking at the top around where the eye is welded on. This is the second set that has done that. I wonder if the limiting straps are putting excess stress on the shock?

Is there any way to order the Bilstein shorter shocks without paying for arnott's complete set up? Anyone have the part number for bilstein?

 

I am in the process of installing the Monroe air shocks. My question is, does the swing arm contact the transmission when fully up. I only have about an 1/8 to a 1/4" clearance between now with stock shocks

 

Fully compressed the monroes are approx 9" in length. Fully expanded they are about 14". I haven't had any contact anywhere

I've read most of this forum. What are ya'lls thoughts on the Gabriel air shocks? I had the Monroe max air on my bike and 1 got a leak. Monroe are on back order and they only go up to 150 psi. I have an 18 on the rear so I have to run more air to keep from rubbing on bumps. So I got the Gabriels cause they go up to 200psi. To me they don't ride as good as the Monroes. seems as if they are ruffer and seems like they have to have more air. Has any one else had both?

I had the same experience with the Gabriel's over the Monroe's. I like the Monroe's better

I have the gabs & have not run the monroes. But I like the gabs. They are way better than the stock shocks that 2were on the Ultra when I got it. Next set I might try the monroes.

The good thing about this mod is that the shocks we use aren't to expensive, maybe $60. It won't really break the bank if you want to swap them for the other brand

 

It seems the Gabriels are a little better after riding more but it seems to take more air pressure than the Monroes. Has anyone noticed this or is it just my gauge messed up? I've ordered the matching gauge from Legend so I'll have alot better gauge.

I never tried the Gabriels so I can't comment on them. I have the Monroes and I haven't had any problems with them leaking down. Maybe check the fittings. If you're using the stock air fitting on the monroes make sure you have the tiny o-ring in place and the cap is screwed down tight not just snug. Fill a spray bottle with soapy water and give them a good soaking to see where on the shock it's leaking from. While you're at it spray all the air line connections you have to be sure it isn't in of those leaking

 

I don't run a gauge but I do run the Gabes and no problems in 10k miles
