So... yea, not really. But it sure sounds like one....

My 2018 has developed a Squeaking noise at idle...
It only happens at idle and only after its warmed up ...Its gotten worse in the past 2 weeks.
The noise resignates from the right side of the engine, Almost as if it were coming from inside the air filter. (I have a SE Heavy breather)

I checked the heat shield clamps, floor boards. I tried to wiggle everything and anything that could be loose but found nothing. If i rev the engine it goes away. Its really annoying me .
It almost sound like a squeaky rocking chair ...

I drove by the dealer this past Saturday and asked one of the mechanics to please come out side and hear it out. At first the noise dissappeared (of course) but I asked him to take it for a ride around the parking lot to get it warmed up again Sure enough the squeaking began. He said it sounded to him like it was coming from the primary... Loose chain im figuring.
The bike is approaching 10,000 miles now so its time for an adjustment Im guessing... But wow, thats alot of Squeaking ...

I recently did change the primary fluid. And used a quart of B&M Trick Shift which i read reviews on and is supposedly superperb or our primaries.. Could that be the culprit ?

Anyone has experienced this ?

Take a length of hose and see if you can locate the noise. Just use it like a stethoscope, plastic shop vac hose works well.

You might even want to take the cover off the air cleaner first. I've seen more than a few posts about SE breathers causing noises at idle. I thing the noise was always there, the SE breather just makes it noticable.

I had a squeak in my motor. Turned out that I had a lifter shit the bed and it sent metal particles throughout my motor. Check your oil before you run it any longer.

Well, I dropped it off at the dealer this morning.
If it is the chain I hope they adjust it and cough it up under warranty work..
However i am anticipating them telling me I am due for my 10,000 mi service which would include that adjustment. Am I correct on that ?

My only defense would be that the level of noise it has is not normal...

I had a squeaky noise coming from the front part of my motor that drove me nuts. Only at idle and very slow speeds.
I had read another post on here about some one else had this issue. Engine stabilizer bar at the front of the motor was stuck at a angle. Sure enough that’s what it was. Got it loose and siliconed it up and no more sqeak. Not saying that where your sqeak is but just sharing my mouse experience.
Let us know how things turn out.

As you can tell so far it could be a variety of things. I had a cam bearing go bad and it sounded like a squeak or chip every so often. Like was stated before if they change the oil they might see little very fine particles of metal that looks like angel dust in the oil and that will let them know there is an internal problem. Hopefully it is just the stabilizer link or something external.

I had an annoying squeak on my old bike that appeared while on a road trip. Turned out to be the rubber muffler spacers under the saddle bags. They dried out. The squeak would disappear while riding, but was there during idle squirted a little wd 40 on em and all was good.

I had the same issue with my 10 about a year ago.

Thermo,
thanks for the advise. If it were the SE intake Wouldnt the squeak occur all the time ?
Its happening only after engine has warmed up and bike has been driven .

I took it to the dealer and all they did was drain the 3 fluids and replaced with new.
They claimed my Primary fluid level was extremely low and was the cause of the squeaking.
Thankfully no metal shavings were found in either of the 3 fluids.

However, after the ride home , the squeak returned...
Apparently they did not take the bike out for a test run even after I informed them that the squeak happens after the bike has been driven a short while.

I can't say. Never actually dealt with the M8 TB squeaker. But I have read about it a few times over the last six months.

The position of the throttle blade changes as the motor warms up and the battery tops up, so the blade is a few steps closer to being closed on a warm motor. So it is different, cold to warm.

Mine does it too with the heavy breather intake. Only at idle. It's just the air whistling through the small opening at idle. I have been told most do it. It's part of the reason the stock air cleaners are so bulky, to absorb some of the noise.

It is pretty loud.

Yes, mine is definitely louder when the bike is cold. Just nature of the beast.

Lil ... had the same thing happen on my 09 Batwing. Could not tell where it was coming from... I sprayed mine with silicone, still on the bike when I traded it in.!

Adjusting the primary chain is not a part of the 10 K maintenance.

There is a singing noise on a lot of M8's that sounds like it might be from the chain case. But its the drive gears on the balance shaft that you're hearing. Not really anything they can do about it, just sloppy specs mostly. So the dealer is going to tell you its normal.

Visit to the dealer 1st time. They said I was extremely low on Primary fluid ..
They topped it off and said the squeak was gone...
On the drive home the Squeaking was still present.

Visit to the dealer 2nd time . They claimed they had 3 guys checking out the bike out in the parking lot.
They claimed they used a stethescope to pin point the squeak. Found that all may saddlebag mounting screws were not tightened all the way... They said the squeaking was gone and my bike was ready to be picked up.... On the drive home the squeaking was still present...

While at a red light with the squeaking going on, I pushed down hard on the neck of the air filter (SE Heavy breather)
The squeak went away. Let up on the air filter, the squeak returns.....

I then realized it was the right side Mid frame heat shield that was rubbing against the top of the rear cylinder head
causing the squeak.. Problem solved....
