My dealer has offered to do their Stage 1 mod to my bike. It consists of installing the SE air cleaner and reprogramming the ECU. When I did test rides to try to decide whether I wanted the RGU or the Electra Glide Ultra Limited, I noticed that the Limited seemed to have more spunk and better throttle response. The sales guy told me that was because it had already received their Stage 1 mod.

I like the idea versus a Fuel Moto Stage 1 mainly because I wouldn't have to replace the mufflers, which means the bike won't have to get louder. I take lots of long trips and noise is tiring. Besides, I really like the way the bike sounds with the stock mufflers.

So, has anyone had their dealer do a mod like this?

If its free when you purchase the bike then its a good deal. If not then I would go with a Dobec TFI and install the breather yourself. Not hard to do at all. The plus to the TFI is that it is not really expensive, they have great customer support and if you are a vet, fire, or PD they will offer you a BIG discount on the product. It is also good up to the 103 and mild cams if you decide to upgrade later. No dyno cost and no dealer maps. I have had the TFI for 2 years and love it.

Thee dealer download is worthless...it does not change the fuel map at all.

If you want more power you need to do a real stage 1.
1. intake (SE, big sucker, etc)
2. pipes that get rid of the cat in the head pipe and decent slip-ons (you can get a V&H head pipe and some Supertrapp SE slip-ons wich are fairly quiet)
3. a real fuel manager (SEPST, TTS, PCV, T-Max)

I have a Propipe Chrome and I ride across the country and can hear the stereo just fine, even at highway speeds.

But if you like the sewing machine sound you could do a just intake and a TFI.

I put the Fuelmoto stage 1 on with the jackpot slip-ons. Not much louder. I am sure you would be fine with it. Next step is to get rid of my headpipe.

I did SE air cleaner and stage 1 download and slipons and I disagree with those who say dealer down load is a waste of money. If you are getting a free down load and free labor do it. The air cleaner is like $130 (very easy to install if you do it yourself). the download and air cleaner did make a noticable boost in performance. heck being it is free and no matter which way you go you are going to want a freer breathing a/c you are crazy not to try it.

I agree. I'm off to the dealer to have it done today. Also, heated grips and different bars. I want to sit more upright. Last item for the dealer is a small oil leak somewhere near the oil pressure sending unit just in front of the ignition side cover. I thought these new HDs didn't leak. :(

Which bars are you getting?

Not to say the maps the dealer provides are useless but you bike will still be running lean and hot as per EPA standards.

The dealer down load does remap the open loop air/fuel ratio along w/ timming changes andincreased rev limit. The confusion comes in as it does not changes the closed loop air/fuel ratio which is lean at 14.7/1. The bike will not run any leaner with the stage one in closed loop just the same 14.7/1 ratio that it ran at before the stage one changes.

That is not entirely true. This is the stage 1 down load.

If you want waste your time with the dealer download be my guest. I personally want my bike to run correctly and cooler so I went with adyno tune. Also during the tune I was able to tell my tuner exactly what I wanted. One of things I specified was that I want good gas mileage especially on the highway.

If you use the parts specified in the dealer down loads your bike will run very well. Many of us do not have a decent tuner within 1000 miles. Closest decent tuner to me is 600 miles one way and I have had friends that went that far and get home and not satisfied with the tune. If you live in an area that has a great tuner that is all fine and dandy but a mediocor tune will be no better then a dealer down load. The owner of TTS actually told me that he worked for harley and that if using thier se parts the stage 1 downloads are very close. By telling your tuner you wanted good mpg you will be lean too and I bet not much diff at cruise then the stage 1 download.

Mine does run very well and heat has not been an issue. I would be interested to see a copy of your afr map to compare thanks jeff

I also did this and it doesn't run as lean as stock. Also with the SE AC I gained about 10 hp.

The dyno is great and when I get my new pipes I will dyno it with a tuner, that is when I have about 1200.00 to spend on the engine :)

If money is an issue, like it is with most of us, go for it. The SE parts and download will give you a decent boost over stock and if you can live with the heat, its well worth it if the dealer is throwing it in with the price of an air cleaner!!

The setup I started with was the SE AC, SE Nightstick and download and it ran great. I just needed more sound and some color (or lack thereof) so I opted for a full exhaust and thats when I went to the PC5. The cats in your head pipes are going to limit the amount of sound regardless of muffler. Not saying you can't get louder, just not alot.

The map was made and then we went back and adjusted the fuel so I would get better mileage at cruise. Only certain parts of the map were set leaner. The stage 1 dealer download is lean all over. I don't have a copy of the map.

I cannot complain as I have excellent power and still get 40mpg.
