Most of us probably have problems admitting mistakes, hell there is a whole thread about mistakes we dont tell other people.

I dont know if this was my mistake or Harleys.

So I consulted fuel moto for any possible insight on why the bike would sump after S&S install. Bob mentioned the debris screen misaligning during install on their shop bike and causing sumping.
So even after essentially lighting money on fire by dumping fresh oil, I couldnt accept S&S solving sumping issues on other bikes, but causing it on mine.

Well.... here is where the mistake is.
Both my buddy and I painstakingly laid out parts, bolts in patterns how they came out of everything, gaskets ETC, even verified everything twice by double checking each other, so I am beating myself up to know if this was my mistake, or if Harley had the wrong oring installed from the factory and i didnt double check if it was right, or if I mistakenly put in the wrong o ring. I pulled them out one at a time, and compared originals to new orings coated them in install lube and installed. My buddy even thinks it was Harleys mistake because he watched me during the whole process (4 eyes are better than 2 right) swears I matched up the new ones with the ones that came out. (btw he is no dummy, been a mechanic for over 25 years, and worked on everything from a fiesta, to a 600hp GTP powered fiero, to exotic cars)

I even had a HD tech mention the push rod tubes use the same orings as the pump (the big one in the head or skinny middle and bottom) lol
How is it i never had aerated oil, or oil pressure issues? (i did see aerated oil in the cam chest during removal of the original harley parts in the cam chest though)
How did this engine not scatter its guts all across the road?
Is this possibly a reason why some factory M8's sump, and some dont?

Im sure you all think its completely my fault, and thats fine, call me stupid, call me whatever, or maybe even agree with me, I dont have any feelings anyone could hurt anyways, so fire away lol

At the end of the day Im just happy its fixed.

Thanks guy, I have no issues blaming myself, just wanted to show any issue i mention in other threads has been solved.

I think you are too quick to blame yourself. We tend to put the moco assemblers and parts at a higher level, you know, since they are the experts. This sumping issue in so many bikes and the time it is taking to correct the issue are proving otherwise.

I had read a good while back on another forum about someone that installed the S&S oil pump and camplate to stop sumping and it still sumped. When he spoke to S&S they told him if it was sumping before then this wouldn't fix it. They told him to talk to HD because it was an issue with the cases. That's the only person I've read about before now that had any sumping after installing the S&S parts.

Glad you got it figured out and hope everything goes well moving forward. I honestly see this thread as being somewhat useless as none of us were there watching the assembler or watching you so you are going to get mostly opinions on what may have happened. Mostly against the MoCo I would be willing to bet. After all, that's what we like to do here on the interweb. Maybe S&S put the wrong o-ring in the install kit? Who really know but at least you figured it out and hopefully didn't incur any long term damage to other parts. Maybe others that have found a wrong o-ring installed from the factory will chime in and that would be something to hang your hat on but anything else is purely a guess and not really worth worrying about. I would just move on and enjoy the ride. Just my 2 pennies....
