Does anyone have any info about S&S's new cam set up with the compression releases built into the cams. I've seen all the info on there website but I'm looking for people with hands on experience with this product.

S&S easy start cams

Recently installed S&S 106 kit with Screaming eagle CnC"d heads and 585 S&S easy start cams. These cams are highway cams not the torque cams.High lift.Turns over like a stock bike.Soo Easy. Not a chance of battery drain.Comes on extremely strong at about 2700 rpm and stays over 100 ft lbs of torque till redline. Will try to drop the rpm kick to just a little lower maybe 30 tooth sproket would help or iff anyone has suggestions I'm all ears. What a great website thanks everybody 103 horsepower 111 torque.gear driven cams

The heads had valves installed as purchased. The price was about that figure.Thought the valves were oversized.I thought the figures would be higher myself. At least 1hp per ci.or better.I think i would have been better off with reported heads by S&S to match their pistons and jugs. The Harley heads were quoted in catalog as supporting up to 585 lift.Still jhoping to get the torque to come on just a little sooner. It really screams when it kicks in and doesnt stop till redline

I'm going with the S&S 106,551 ez start cams, adjustable push rods, feuling lifters, se compensator, S&S tuned induction intake, pcv autotune. I've heard good things about the ez start cams, kinda new to hear alot of feedback good or bad as far as reliability goes.

Go with the s&s 551 EZ cam and you'll be cool. It should come on between 1500 and 2000 RPM.

how about the s&s 583? Tq curve looks similar to the 551 without the dip at 3k. I am researching the 106 kit and looking for advice on cam choice. Ive had the 585 before and it seems to come on too late. Had a lot of pinging too that they couldnt tune out of?? Anyone else have experience with the 106 kit?

Sorry I never said it was new technolgy.. They are in ATV Lawn mowers etc.
I have the simliar type of design not saying its an S&S cam in my brigss motor 18.5 hp and it stuck open that means the spring broke. How did I have to fix it???
Take it apart. replace cam assy.
How did I know . No compression or very little.
Not basshing the cams just not sure of them at this time.. Just waiting. I test everything before I sell them..
I'll stick to the old S&S cams for now.
Again its just my 2 cents....

Thanks,
Ride safe
I'm with you on this one, I seem to remember that cam style on one of my 2 strokes when I was younger and it ended up screwing up.
I'm sure technology has marched forward and I admire the guys who forge ahead with the "first off" stuff, but not for me - don't want to re-invent the wheel and it would bug me in the back of the brain on the long roadtrips. I can yank comp. releases anywhere and soak them down in wd40......

What do you mean when you say you "can soak your comp. releases in WD40"?? How does this help? and what does it do? I've heard about this before but I never understood why you would soak the releases is WD40. Thanks!

What if I get the comp. realeases for my heads now and down the road the EZ start cams turn out to be the cats ass, is there a way I can plug the holes up in the heads where the comp. releases where drilled in. Does somebody sell a plug? do you weld up the hole? or do you just leave the comp. releases in and don't worry about them? THANKS!

You can put a plug short threaded bolt in with anti-seize to fill the hole.

I have the 585's in a 106 and agree starts easy and runs great mid to top end which is what I wanted, if I was doing it again I would go 583 on the bagger or 551 for lower power,

Advanced them 4 degrees with a woods +4 to get the intake close at 41 so they come on a bit sooner...

SNS makes good stuff and I"m sure they have tested the snot out of these
those guys take all parts through a serious testing period before
putting them out. Plus if the spring breaks I'll have a good reason to put in
new cams, port the heads, and make it a 124 LOL Safety reasons you know.. LOL

easy to maintain bike

Leave it stock LOL

I love HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLES but come on. We pay enuff money for these things build them with quality parts.

I make a living of building and fixing Harleys Dont leave them stock!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL LOL

yeah, not even the bikes on the dealer floor
are stock anymore

HD's stuff is pretty good, it's not made to be
a 140 HP fire breathing tire shreading monster

Just a good ol heavy crusier that gets
you where you want in style. Lots of TC engines
out there with hundreds of thousands of miles
on them..

If I was going to do any more engine work
I'll sell off the stocker and drop in the new
HD 120R, it's a beast....

No warrenty, No weld or plug on flywheels, NO THANKS. just my 2 cents. Does anybody know if they put a timken bearing in that new 120R.

No offense, there are those that will always quest for more power,
My 124 softail makes plenty, doesn't need anything else other than the 9bG woods
cams that helped it over the softer street SNS 640's which were no slackers etiher.

Have a friend with an out of the box 120R no work and it's spinning a Rivera Pro clutch with the gold racing spring...

Cleaning up the heads will help no doubt but at what hp per dollar cost are you getting
with the money for the Tman cams and head work, at some point the increase HP per dollar spent declines rapidly, been there done that and at some point you are just chasing dyno numbers...

Example
Ported Heads $700
107 Kit Pistons/Cly $800
New Intake HPI $500
Weld Crank and timken $100
labor to do engine $500 to $600
Misc gaskets fluids $100
Pushrods $150
Cams $300
Right there you are at $3050 over half the cost of a 120R at retail
and not anywhere near the base of the 120R, and you'll never get near
the potential.

Anyone out there would be better served if they are HP junkies to drop
in the 120R and forgo having a shop setp a performance engine other than
a basic head port and cams, any work over $2000 to bump the engine
will be thrown out at the next change, been there done that, it's why
there is a 124 in the softail...

I think though when I do the 120R I will stick the stock engine in the box, lube and seal it up, so when I sell the 09, I'll pull the 124, drop the stock engine back in, and put the 120R in the next bike....LOL
