Have a 13Rg with a 21" front and 16 in the rear looking for new rubber. Opinions on best all round tires out there. Don't really like going 100mph so more for handling and safety. All opinions welcomed

So far for me it's the Michelin Comm II. They perform well in all conditions and I've gotten plenty of mileage. The front 20k and the rear 10k+. My only other experience has been with Dunlops, Metzlers 880 and 888's. I can't wait to put the Comm II rear on the wife's bike. She has a Metzler 880 18" on the rear and it's close to needing a change with less than 6k on it.

Tires?

Debated between Metzers and the Michelin Comm2’s for my 2012 Road Glide. And as the forums helped thought I would pile on!
Since I already have Metzlers on my old 94 Dyna, gave the Comm2’s to the RGU, not disappointed after first 500KM:
Quite ‘slippery' for 1st 100KM or so thru the break in so be careful.
Handling issues in the wind- gone
Tar Snake and crack wobbles- gone
While I am not a super aggressive driver cornering is great, and makes me push RGU a bit harder in turns, and she behaves.
Riding two up, again all good!
Breaking seems all-good!
No wet rides yet.
Did not like the handling on the factory Dunlops, but got over 22,000 KM so not all bad (front cupping and square rear aside), hope the Michelins live up to the advertised wear.

I'm also a fan of Metzler - hey, they're made in Germany by a company that's been around sionce the 1800s! You can't go wrong with a set of these. I just got the new ME 888 Marathon Ultra and they really perform on those twisty roads! I used to have Dunlop Touring (D402?) on my RG but wasn't happy with them. Yes the Dunlop touring tires give those extra miles; and as some have pointed out the Metzler will wear down much quicker but that's the whole point! :)

BTW I bought my RG second hand and it had tires which looked brand new. They were stock from the local MoCo dealer but they were actually 8 years old(!!) The rubber felt like a hockey puck...
Bottom line - new tires are actually a cheap accident insurance. I say go for that extra grip not those extra miles!

I'm sold on the Michelin Commander II
My last set - on my '11 FLTRU?
Front got 25,407 miles
Rear got 22,576 miles and could have gotten a little more, but was on the road & time for 70k service.

So being the nerd that I am I looked up top mods for motorcycles last night. Most were saftey items. But one exactly was a mention of new tires (yes even on a new bike) I guess the factory puts on shit tires for some applications compared to the higher level tires mentioned above. I live in a desert state hot most all year long and I appreciate your first hand stories. I will be looking into these options come spring. I really dont want a new set every year if I can avoid it.

Comm 2's on my fatboy lo were great. A lot more miles than my factory dunlops. The comm 2,s were a little more sensitive to lean. More responsive handling. Got them for $300 installed. Great deal at a local shop.
Definitely a fan of these tires. Get some. What's the worse that could happen. Different tires in a year or 2!
