So last weekend I traded in my 2007 street bob for a 2016 road glide special. The street bob was a great bike and I really enjoyed it. However, my wife FINALLY started really getting into riding long distances with me last summer, after being together and me riding various bikes over the last almost 30 years. It quickly became obvious that the street bob wasn't good enough to haul us both more than 100 miles without a fair amount of discomfort. I'm happy to say that will not be the case this summer!

Since the weather hit the high 40's today, I took advantage and warmed the bike up good, then went out to hit that magic 50 mile break in point. Here's what I learned:

Even though this bike is much heavier than the bob, it actually handles better. As expected, it was much more stable in a cross wind. The brakes are awesome. I'm loving the infotainment system so far. Cruise control will definitely be one of my favorite perks this summer (only used it for a minute today). Basically everything is better than the bob and I'm very happy.

The engine does have plenty of power to reach highway speeds quickly, and I imagine passing power will be good too. I wouldn't call it a speed demon but it's definitely not a dog, either. Works great for me. If I wanted to go from 0 to holy-shit in 2 seconds I would have bought a crotch rocket instead of a Harley touring bike. I love riding with other people, and no matter what displacement /hp/torque anyone has, we all wind up at the same place together. It fits my needs perfectly and I'm on cloud 9 right now.

You're going to love you're RGS, especially riding solo. Rides the highways as well as any bike I've ever owned, and handles well at slow, parking lot speeds too. I've heard from my wife that the passenger seat is "iffy". If she continues to mention it, I might consider a change in that dept......maybe a young 20 something year old, lol. RGS is a great ride. Congratulations!

LOL yeah, I already put a Hammock seat and sissy bar on for her. Gotta keep the little lady happy!

Another welcome from CT. The stock seat doesn't offer much for the passenger. That was an early upgrade here too. If you're going to do a lot of long distance, consider a tour-pak. The wife and I can pack plenty for a weekend, and then some, on the road,

I've got a really great tail bag that we'll be using. It fits almost everything we need for a weekend getaway and can take it inside where we are staying, keeping our personal effects handy. It's a Nelson - Riggs Dayrunner I think.

I own a new 16 also with a wopping 14 miles on it. I picked it up 10/30/15. Damn I hate winters in Idaho. The first day it hits in the high
40's I will be leathered up and gone. Longest winter in my life.:frown:
I picked mine up first week of November, and I live in Minnesota. Have just shy of 100 miles on it, damn winters in Minnesota, cannot wait for spring. What a great smooth riding machine compared to my 05 Heritage.
Damn! You poor guys! I live in Idaho and I bought mine just five months ago, and I've got 7,000 miles on it. Goose2, you obviously don't live here in the "Banana Belt"! :D
