So from researching suspension upgrades for my 13 Ultra I settled on Ohlins from Motorcycle Metal. Went with Howards #6's on the rear and the FKC 101's on the front. I talked with Howard several times before making the selection. The FKC 101's are a nix system for the Forks, one side damping on side rebound. The # 6's have sag/preload, compression and damping adjustments. Howard sends instructions on how to install the rears and ask you to call him when ready to do the forks. He will give you a lesson on what to look for as far as the ware that had already occurred on the tubes so you understand why you need to service the forks sooner than most say. Howard walked me thru the first fork with patience (lol) Since it was my first fork rebuild he needed a lot. If your going to do your own let me stress make sure you have the proper tools! It really makes the job a breeze.

I had already installed the #6's a few weeks back per Howards instructions. The ride was night and day difference between the stock air shocks and the #6's. But like others have said it showed how bad the stock front suspension was. The #6's Truly a work or art. Thanks Howard!

On Thursday I removed the Forks, tore them apart and cleaned them inside and out to get ready for the build on Friday after work. After getting everything set up and ready to rock and roll I called Howard for the walk thru on install. Howard went over all the parts with me explaining the reasons why and what each does. He really wants his customers to be knowledgeable and happy with a purchase from him and he goes the extra mile to try to educate you before and after the purchase. I know from my researching the threads some were put off by his personality, which is your right. To me, I welcomed the no BS approach, the desire to educate me so I knew what I was buying and how to install and adjust as needed.

So yesterday the wife and I loaded up and went on a 250 mile run thru the N Ga mountains a ride we have done many times on the Ultra. WOW the difference was amazing, smooth over bumps, tracked true in the curves at higher speeds 60-65 in 30-35 mph curves. Impressed ! to say the least. The combination of new front and rears are everything we had hoped. You really don't know what your missing if you have only had stock suspension.

We will have new tires and a service soon and we will be ready for Shark Week VIII. Look forward to seeing everyone again.

I put the blackline with rebound and preload adjustment. I only rode 60 miles on the stock road glide shocks to know they had to go. I didn't have much issue with the air shocks on the '16 RGU or the 13 inch shocks on the Road King, but these 12" shocks really are harsh.

I haven't decided yet if I need the front Ohlins on the '18. They seem to be about the same harshness has the Ohlins now. I try to discern whether I am feeling the front or the rear when going over bumps. So far the front doesn't show up as being more harsh.

Twowheel I haven't riding the newer models yet so I have nothing but my 13 to compare to. But from other posts the Suspension on the newer RG's were improved. Your New Bike looks great.

I went front and back with Ohlins on my '17 RG. The front was a noticeable improvement, but not as dramatic as the rear. Worth the money...

Which specific models did you go for? Would it be appropriate to share the cost? Just picked up my new '17 RGS and dear lord is the suspension bad. Added to it the rough roads of India with their potholes, my chiropractor will make a boatload of money.

Thanks in advance.

PS: Thats my son atop the bike.

I also did the fkc101's as well as the #6 rears from Howard. Unfortunately, I left the country for 5 months before it was done. That being said, the tech who did the install test road it and fine tuned everything (weighs the same as me) and said the ride and handling was impressive. 2012 FLTRX for what it's worth. guess I'll get to see how it rides next spring :frown:

I purchased my Ohlins from Howard and he was nothing but awesome to deal with.
He’s extremely knowledgeable when it comes to suspensions and is always available to talk you through the install.
Most people that talk bad about him are looking for someone that tells them only what they want to hear.
Howard tells it like it is and doesn’t sugarcoat anything.
One other thing, he’s a USMC Vietnam Veteran and that’s top notch in My Book.
Thanks Howard, My 2012 Custom never rode better!
