I think the first oil I used was Mobile 1, I've switched back and forth between that and Amsoil, just depends on availability and what's on sale, I never use HD Syn 3, last time I checked HD makes motorcycles, not oil, not to mention it's way overpriced also.

Mobile 1 MC oil for the engine Easy to get and a good oil as far as I know. I Use Red line shock proof in the tranny and HD SN3 in the primary. Those three have worked for me for many bikes and many moons.

I have used Lucas,Amsoil,Mobil 1, and have used royal purple only the last few years like that I can see it on the dip stick when you put it in new as it gets older you can see the color change starts to brown up that way I know it is cleaning.I think it makes the rocker box quite not so much tappet noise.I put half qt lucas syn stabilizer use rp in primary and 90/140 in trans.

Mobil 1 Vtwin has some the highest phosphorus and zinc (zddp ) ratings for anti wear additives in motorcycle oils. The epa has mandated that most oils have less zinc and phosphorus to extend the life of the catalytic converters on cars except motorcycle oils at this time.

Here is the Mobil data sheet showing the nominal phosphorus and zinc amount amount >>

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Files/Mobil_1_Product_Guide.pdf

And another page for questions about zinc and phosphorus >> http://www.valvoline.com/faqs/motor-oil/racing-oil/

Other V Twin M/C oils have simliar amount of both phosphorus and zinc, but from all the info I have read on oil analysis done on most new oil, Mobil 1 tops the list.

I have used and like Amsoil & Reline as well. I especially like Redline Shockproof heavy duty 75/250 gear oil for my transmission

I have used quite a few over the years and currently I'm using NAPA 15W50 Synthetic mainly because they were having a great sale. Synthetic tends to run cooler than dino but otherwise, how long it stays in the engine is more important than what is in the engine. I know I will most likely get flamed for this comment but I don't care. The trap some guys fall into is thinking because synthetic stays stable longer than dino, it can be left in longer and I will not do that. A filter can only do so much and I choose not to run my engine with old dirty oil too long regardless of what an oil company salesman says.4000 miles and it's gone. Redline primary case oil in the primary seems to offer smooth clutch engagement and the Redline Transmission oil with Shockproof seems to quiet my 2009 5th gear although so did Belray Gearsaver and Spectro Platinum for 6 speeds. So many good choices out there...the only real way to go wrong with any of them is to leave them in too long. FWIW. By the way, I do add this stuff when I do oil changes for protection sake http://www.barsproducts.com/catalog/view/245-3x-concentrated-engine-oil-supplement-with-zinc-treatment-4405

I prefer and use Redline. Very reliable oils. Bike seems to run quieter and shift better too. Racer Parts Wholesale sells a Power Pack which includes V-Twin engine oil, V-Twin trans oil with ShockProof and V-Twin Primary oil. They include a funnel too. All in all any synthetic oil should suffice. Everyone has their own preferences. So, whatever works for you is just fine. Best of luck on your decision.

After almost 30 years in the maintenance field I just have to say that there really isn't any bad oils out there anymore and true acutal oil related failures are very far and few between. It doesn't matter what brand you use. Whats important is that its the correct weight and type for the application.
