Packtalk Edge and Boom GTS compatibility

I just installed a WHIM and have a non-branded Packtalk Bold, sounds like crap, especially for CB. As I explore whether an HD Branded Packtalk Edge is worth the investment, I come across this in the HD store description. It says the HD Branded Packtalk Edge is optimized for Skyline, not Boom GTS (22 RGL).

Is anyone using an HD-branded Packtalk Esge on a Boom GTS? Does it provide the high-definition stereo quality we should expect from spending $400 bucks?

What is HD referring to in their disclaimer?

This is why I swapped out my Boom GTS for the SoundStream V2. I had a WHIM and the HD branded SENA 50S that no longer held a battery charge and HD sunset that relationship with no plans to resupply or backfill that. The relationship with Cardo started to support the new Skyline, but they basically gave up any full integration with the Boom GTS. @craigffb and I discussed this in a previous post and I agree that the motor company needs to support their new product...but they are still producing the Boom GTS in 2024 models (Limited versions of RG and SG). If you are putting that to the market, you should at least still support that in some fashion.

I called up tech support and made a suggestion on updating the firmware of the WHIM to where it would work in full stereo for any brand headset. I'm sure that suggestion went in the trash with all the others, but in the end I decided to replace my head unit to something that allows me to use any headset. I'm still having issues with that, but it is constantly getting updated. Sadly I think you are out of luck unless you can find a used HD branded SENA 50S on the market place out there. I sold two recently and kept my 3rd one with the dying battery. I plug that one in to the cigarette plug of the tourpack to act as a bridge for my Cardo to SENA's.

Not great news, but very helpful Danny.
So, if my non HD branded Cardo works with the WHIM today, HD voice commands, CB etc but sounds like an AM mono radio, would any older Sena at least get me the fidelity I am looking for? I’ve found a 20s and a 50s branded unit but would rather get a Packtalk Edge or Neo if that will also work ‘as well’ as a Sena.

what issues are you having with the Soundstream?

It would still have to be a HD Branded SENA to get the fidelity you deserve. It doesn't matter if it is a 20S or 50S. There are a few floating out there and I think the dealership my wife works at still has one or two of them in stock new.

My preference was to always go Cardo. I like their features better than SENA, but I do know that SENA just released a 60S (or whatever they call it) that is pretty feature packed. I went with a Cardo Packtalk Pro that we pair to a phone and use on my wife's LowRider ST and then I went with the HD Branded Packtalk Edge pair for using on my bike. My son and I will wear those on my bike and the wife will wear the pro on hers so we can have the DMC between the three of us. The Pro is really nice but you lose the ability to have the "crash detection" on it if you don't pair it to your phone. Hence why it is dedicated only for the LowRider ST.

SoundStream rushed to the market and used us early adopters as their guinea pigs and beta testers. They released a huge update about 3 months ago that fixed a lot of the problems, but there still seems to be some issues with Apple CarPlay and it. That is more on the Apple front because they roll out their updates with no regard to compatibility with products that use it. My biggest gripe is rejecting a phone call, you have to touch the screen to do so. Of course that is harder on a RG than a SG. I got the HD illuminated controls that have the PTT feature and I need to program that to where I can reject a call from the thumb switches. I just haven't gotten around to it. There is also an issue with Cardo voice commands not recognizing it. This isn't the case with SENA but they are making headway. It's coming along but it has been painful. I'm happy I made the choice though.
