Here's the situation: 2017 RGU in Quartz Black. Love the color, but I've never been a big fan of the gold pinstripes.

I want to change that up. I'm musing on two thoughts. 1) Have a good pinstriper go over them in orange, so I'd have an HD black and orange thing happening, or 2) have them painted over in a matte black, so they wouldn't be noticed unless you look really closely, it'd look like a solid color bike. I've never seen that done before so it might be interesting.

To test my theory, I covered the stripes with black electrical tape just to see how it might look. I'd be interested in your opinions. Pics attached.

I change mine up all the time

Go buy some automotive vinyl pinstripe tape and have at it.

I use the same kind as the car dealerships and if you have a good eye and know how to apply, your good to go.

My current vinyl is carbon fiber and IMO it looks amazing.

You stand back and you can’t even see it unless your at the proper angle with the sun.

This thread might give you some ideas

I agree, first do the tape stripe and see how you like it, orange would rock JMO, but I am sure other colors would do the same, if you happy with one , they get them painted on for good I say, silver is another good choice.

If you go over the existing stripes with a different color, the stripes end up getting pretty big. Just fyi, not necessarily a bad thing.

I know an amazing custom painter and pinstriper in Augusta. I have known him for 20 years now and everything he does is badass. Shoot me a text if you want some pics of my old car he did. He can do anything and everything you could want, plus it's usually a price that's cheaper than expected.

Maybe these links will work since the forum doesn't want me to post pics

Thanks James! I’ll definitely keep that in mind when I get serious about this. Got some other projects I’m working on before I get there. :)

I found some cheap orange pinstripe tape and played around with it this afternoon.

At first I was really digging it. Really changed the look a lot. The more I looked at it and walked around it, I think it’s too much. If it was a dull burnt orange I might feel differently.

I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing, so thanks for giving me a preview. I like the orange but am following to see what other colors you might decide on. Love the bar and shield tank badges by the way!

When I was dreaming about a new bike he said he would do a full custom paint job around $3k out of the body shop he is working at. Not a bad price for something that would easily pop more than the badass cvo paint jobs. He was the lead graffics guy at big dog for numerous years.

I also like the matte black. Makes the emblem stand out more to me
I have blue pin stripes on mine. I wouldn't mind if they were painted over matte black.

It was a guy I found through Facebook. He may be out East, I’m not sure.

I had the light blue on my superior blue gone over with black. It almost disappears depending on the lighting. I love it but i'm not a flashy guy i like subtle. my opinion is the flat black.

Looks good! I've been thinking of doing similar to my RG. I've thought a lot about a mix of silver and orange but you've shown me that just orange looks good as well. and just using one color would probably be a lot easier for my poor skill set.
