Admin/Forum Members,

Being a bit of a chow hound, I was wondering if there would be any interest in a thread devoted to great places to eat for folks on road trips? Perhaps break it down by state, or something. What do you think?

I like it. One of the reasons I went with the Road Glide was to do some cross country rides. A few destination places to chow down at would just make it that much better. Thanks for that link, Redfish-Joe. Anybody else think Guy Fieri would look right at home on a RG?

Yea i could see Guy on a Roadie...:D

If any of you guys are cruising threw N. Calif. on I5 there is a little town of Maxwell just north of Williams (don't blink your eyes) there is a great place to eat there called the Maxwell Inn. Also in Williams another good place is Granzella's at the sports bar in back, we always hit one or the other on our way to the coast from Chico Calif.

A few places in South Mississippi to chow down.

Columbia The Round Table. Great country cooking as good as grandma's!

Pass Christian Lucios Mexican Restaurant. Davis Ave.

Pass Christian Darwells. Listed with Triple D

Gulfport / Orange Grove The Shed. Hiway 53. Best BBQ around.

Woolmarket The Love Shack. Great hand formed burger cooked over an open pit.

Gautier Hucks Cove. Oak Street. Good seafood and plenty of it.

I've eaten at Granzella's, and it was great! I was visiting a buddy who lived in Williams at the time, and it was a favorite of his. There was a great little taco stand in Williams as well....can't remember the name of it. This was like 10-15 years ago. He's since moved to Placerville. Had great Italian food at a small hotel in Occidental as well. Not sure if I spelled that town right?

I'll throw up a few AK eateries. I'll go with a few standouts by meal.

Breakfast

Fairbanks, AK

The mother of all breakfasts has to be at The Cookie Jar(http://www.cookiejarfairbanks.com/). Get the chicken fried steak. It's made with a thick slice of leftover prime rib! I'd suggest a side order of Lipitor!

If that's too much of a good thing for you, then you can tone it down with the French Toast. It's made with a humongous cinnamon roll, sliced and fried.

Lunch

Anchorage, AK

A burger at Club Paris(http://www.clubparisrestaurant.com/). It's made with ground filet mignon, and they don't charge an arm and a leg for it. They also have some of, if not the best, steaks in town.

For a great non-gourmet burger, try Tomm'ys Burger Stop, The Longbranch Saloon, or The Chef's Inn at Blues Central(great music at night, if you like the blues!)

Dinner

Girdwood, AK(about an hour or so south of Anchorage)

For a really good, and huge French Pepper Steak, try The Double Musky(http://www.doublemuskyinn.com/). It's a huge New York, that's blackened, and served with a brown sauce(roux)...it's awesome! Get there as soon as they open, or you will wait forever for a table, and they don't take reservations. A fair amount of their food has a cajun flair, and it's all good.

Granzellas burnt down a couple years back but they managed to save all the stuffed critters and opened back up a while back. You can't even tell the place ever burnt down.

Just went through Placerville a couple weeks back on the bike. My wife and I found a really great Mexican food place there downtown called Tortilla Flats.

Glad to hear they survived, and saved the cool stuff! They had a hell of a deli up front, and more kinds of olives, than I've ever seen!

Will have to ask Charlie if they've been to Tortilla Flats!

The internet has made the world, a very small place!

One great ride is the Pennisula Skyline in California and Alice's Resturant is a great place to eat. Thier menu is food named after almost every street bike ever made. Some days there could be 100 bikes or more there at a time.

A couple more great AK eateries...

Some of the absolute best Mexican food in the state can be found in the little town of Haines, at Mosey's Cantina(http://www.moseyscantina.com/). Their Mole is great, as is the chile verde, or anything else on the menu! They also serve a great local microbrew. If the Sprucetip Ale is on tap, try it, it's awesome! As is common in many tourist towns, they're only open May-Sept. If you happen to be using our ferry system, you very likely will pass through this wonderful little community. The road between Haines, AK and Haines Junction, YT is one of the finest roads you will ever ride on. Wide open, uninhabited, cop free. A breathtaking high speed run. Oh yeah, as you leave Haines, leave in the morning, so you can have breakfast at the 33 Mile Roadhouse. Great rustic little log place, with super food.

May as well stick with the coastal community theme. Next is for a really great plate of fish and chips. Take a nice hour plus ride south of Anchorage, to the harbor town of Whittier. A quirky little place where nearly the entire towns population, lives in one big apartment building! You get to go through a really long tunnel, that alternates between train traffic and passenger vehicles. When you get there, look for Varley's Swiftwater Cafe(http://www.swiftwaterseafoodcafe.com/). Get the 1/2 rockfish-1/2 shrimp basket....you'll thank me later. Save room for the rhubarb crunch w/ice cream, or the bread pudding. They also have a great bottled microbrew selection. Another May-Sept operation. That's basically the only time you want to visit Whittier anyway....unless you enjoy being buried in snow.

Theres a great little place in Cave Springs Georgia. I can't remember the name but the food was great, the deserts were fantastic and the price was even better. The town is only two blocks big so it won't be hard to find.
