I recently picked up an 05'. It already has a power commander, and some slip ons. Well I wanted a different sound so last week I ordered some cfr's, dresser duals, and a cobra powerpro. I drop the bike off on Monday to get the gear cams, duals and cfr's put on. So here's my question, I'm not having them dyno the bike because I was planning on installing the powerpro at home. So can I run the power commander and the power pro at the same time?!? Will the "auto tune" feature on the powerpro make money spent on a dyno tune pointless? The PC the bike came with is one of the older ones, should I take it off and run the powerpro alone? Any help would be appreciated!

I looked at the Cobra pretty seriously and I think it would be ok for a stage 1 or even a stocker without having to dyno tune. The fact that you're adding cams is a step beyond that. I could certainly be wrong but I think you'd be better off going with a new dyno tune to get the most out of your build. You don't mention a new free flow air cleaner setup, but I assume you're doing it too.

As I understand the Cobra primarily controls fuel, while the PC controls that and timing among other things.

You can run one or the other but not both. Alternately you could get the auto tune module for the PC and still not have to dyno but you will need a new map to recognize what is happening with the new cams. That's a game changer. A while back, I think Fuel Moto had an offer to trade up to a Power Vision from Power Commander, that may be a way to "new up" with most recent technology.

Having said all that, check out Zippers' Thundermax. Does everything, no dyno needed. Lots of our sponsors sell Tmax and Power Vision, I've read some stuff about the Cobra unit here but it's in the minority.

Thanks for the answers! I forgot to mention that the bike came with a heavy breather already on it. My main concern now is, will the bike run ok with the old power commander and the old map with the new mods until i have the money for the thundermax? That thing is expensive, but it has the auto tune feature I want.

As mentioned, you will need to add the O2 sensors also for the autotune options. You can go with TM or add the autotune feature to the existing PC.

It will not run well if you change the cams and do nothing to change programming in the power commander.

But if your going with cams you should consider new headers without the CAT or have the existing one cut out. You will not take advantage of the new cams with the stock headers.

If you were going to do this in stages and want to use an autotune feature, get the tuner before the cams.

Dont try to run them together, select one and use it.

The Cobra is a fuel tuner and may work for you but it is limited in that it does not make timing changes or front and rear cly.

IMO Id return the Cobra and continue to use the PC, get the bike dynoed or try to contact Jamie at FM to gat a MAP for your set up. The PC is a more complete tuner. Better yet use the $ from the Cobra and buy a PCV ,TTS or for the older HD a SERT and flash tune the bike correctly wiht out a piggy back unit
