Just wondering what the consequences are to riding on a worn primary chain tensioner pad? Bike has 41k miles. Been riding it since 36k. The pad is grooved and I know it needs to be replaced. My gf and I will be riding to Toronto next weekend and I just don't have the time off of work to change the pad. So what happens when you ride on a worn out pad?

If I can find the time, what is required to change out the pad? I already have a replacement read to go. Do I need to readjust the tensioner after I replace the pad?

Thanks for any help guys.

What year? My tensioner pad developed some serious grooves. Pulled outer primary cover and replaced the pad. Took a couple hours to drop front and rear floorboards, remove shifter, etc.

Had wear showing on the front top part of the case. It was making a lot of noise like groaning and rattle.

Mine is an '01.
