I have the HD Ipod Interface set up on my 2012 Road Glide Ultra with a 7th generation Nano Ipod. Here is the problem: I set the Ipod to a particular playlist, and upon shutting the bike down, the setting automatically reverts back to the alphabetized master list upon start up of the motorcycle. I have to manually go back to the playlist I was listening to, and advance to the song that was playing upon shutdown. This happens all the time. Anyone have this problem, and how did you corrrect it?

My 2013 CVO is currently in the shop for this and other problems related to the ipod interface and stereo in general, its been there going on 2 weeks now. Harley Tech services is replacing it one piece at a time. But, back to your question; mine was doing the exact same thing, what HD Tech services told us to do to prevent this from happening is to turn off the radio before you turn off the bike. This will pause the Ipod at the song currently playing, then when you crank back up, turn the radio back on. The guys in my service center confirmed after they started following this procedure this has worked for them every time. I can not personally confirm this as they still have my bike. They have replaced my interface, my amps, the radio and now are replacing the speakers. I am anxiously awaiting the call saying my Jezebel is all fixed and ready for pick up! I hope this helps/works for you.

Mine does the same thing, drives me effin nuts (almost as much as auto correct on my phone/computer) and has caused me to start collection pieces and parts to a new audio system. The sooner I get the HK out the less frustrated I'll be.

As for shutting the radio off every time, that didn't work for me. Still resets to the first track alphabetically.

As I was explaining, I do not have my bike back out of service yet, but HD Tech Services is telling the service department the fix is to turn off the radio. I feel they have a program flaw in the interface causing this to occurr. I also had the problem it will only play about 200 of the 1000 songs I have loaded onto the Ipod Nano that came with the bike. I told them if they are unable to resolve all the problems I want the interface taken off and the XM modlue installed. This interface has been agravating since day one, I like not having to plug into the AUX port, but until they figure out the bugs, it is not worth the agravation to me.

I am not too impressed with the HD interface. Mine has done this since I got it but it doesn't really bother me. I usually just use the whole library and just shuffle to the next song. Problem is it intermitently cuts out. It's like the cable is loosing connection. If I unplug and reattach it usually cures the problem for awhile. At first if I switched to the radio or WB it would play but on my way back from Sturgis everything on the HK quit playing. The first time it happened I just turned the HK off then back on and it worked again but the next day when I left for home it quit working until the last 100 miles of a 550 mile day. Next morning it workd all the way home. I may have two seperate problems. One with the interface and one with the radio. I had the HDPDPLUS interface on my 11 for 40k and never had a problem. This one didn't make it 1K before the problems started.

My list of issues is long and seems to be growing is why I insisted they keep the bike until they had gone through everything related to the radio. The first time I took it in, they were convinced it was the Ipod itself. I knew this was not the problem and finally got them to see I was right when I plugged another Nano in and the same thing happened. Unfortunatley I didn't have time for them to keep it as I had a group ride to Colorado the next week, so I rode out and back with no radio. I even tried pluging into the AUX port and it did the same thing. Since getting back they replaced the radio and it is still doing the same thing. When I have tried to advance the songs it would lock up the Ipod, the radio would display the wrong song and most times it wouldn't even play any song, other times it would play a song but not display it. Then it got where the left speaker would drop in and out and then became so bad the left front speaker would drop out and stay off. I feel the main wiring harnes has a short but so far they do not agree and have replaced most everything but this trying to fix the problems. The good thing for me, the service tech is seeing the same thing so they know there is a problem. I am not too happy with how long it is taking, nor how the HD Tech support is going about providing a fix to my service center. I have to say this is the first issue I have had that has taken a while to fix in all the years (going back to 1993) I have owned and ridden Harley Davidson motorcycles, but I am getting close to the end of my patience on this issue.

From time to time the radio display will not show the song/artist but that hasn't happened in quite a while. I have tried two different ipod Nano's as well and it skips back to the alphabetized list on both when shut down. I will try shutting off the radio before shutting down the bike until a real fix is found.

I also experience the limited number of songs that play as well. I assume they all do this since there are a few here with same experiences. Dealer can't believe it's an iPod issue because it'll happen regardless of what's connected. I've used 3 iPods, 2 iPhones and had the same problem with them all.

I stopped using the interface because of it being so counterintuitive (AKA: A pain in the ass). It would always revert back to first alphabetized song. Don't even get me started on trying to play a playlist. If it was not so difficult to get to the module, I would give it a final adjustment with a 45 slug.
I use Bluetooth now and blood pressure is back to a normal level.

I have the HD interface...I found the same issue...Yes...shut off Stereo before you stop bike & it will resume where you left off. As far as the Playlist..another Trick...In Itunes..You can change how the playlist is read from Artist, Song..Album..etc...play with it..I can ride for Weeks...same songs keep playing from Shuffle...Get's Tiresome...

My findings show that shutting the radio off before shutting the bike down doesn't work all the time. I had a number of instances where I followed this procedure and it still reverted back to the alphabetized list.

I am still waiting to get my bike back from service. I am disappointed to hear this did not fix the problem as I am sure I will find the same to be true. I hope they have mine ready at some point this week and hope they have resolved the problem of the left speakers dropping out. If they tell me something else to address the problem of the Ipod going back to the first song each time, I will be sure to pass it along.

As promised I am following up with an update on what Harley Tech Services has finally come back with regarding my left speaker dropping out. My bike spent 3 weeks in service (this was my second trip for this problem) this last time with Harley Tech Services saying they had exhausted everything they knew to correct the problem and were waiting on Harley Engineering to get back with them. Basically they told me I could pick up my bike while we all waited on the mother ship to get back with them. Two weeks later and I received a call today saying they are going to replace the tweeters and the left speaker. They told they had already tried this, along with the radio, the amp and interface but they are doing it again. They (Harley Engineering) said the cause of the problem was because I turn my AVC up over 2 bars. I called BS! but we will see. i also told them I am an older person who needs the AVC turned up when on the highway and if this is the cause it will happen again. They said the AVC is blowing the speakers when the volume is turned up past midway. They said the speaker and tweeters should be in by the end of the week and they will do the install while I wait. I do not have any expectations this will solve the problem but as of now I have to go through the process. Harley Customer Service got me no where, so we will see what happens after this next round. They still do not have a good answer on why the IPod short cycles the play list either. This has and continues to be a very frustrating process to live through.

and they won't. this is not an ipod controller issue, but an ipod issue. hd barely knows whats going on with their stuff, they will have no clue when it comes to apple. though, honestly i would like to hear some type of solution to get a better mix from the shuffle too.....

will be interesting to hear what happens with the speakers after you get that done.

I talked with the people from Iron Cross Audio yesterday and decided to go with their Ipod Interface. As far as the HD Interface, I have tried everything; shutting off the radio before shutting down the bike; switching to radio before shutting down the bike, and manually shutting off the Ipod and nothing has worked.

i hope it works out for you. to me, the playlist starting over is not a big enough deal to completely forgo one unit and buy another.

fwiw, i have heard of some folks with the hdpd+ having the same issue with where the tracks start......

For me, it IS a big enough deal when things don't work as advertised. I know the Iron Cross interface had a few glitches with the short cable. I will be using the long cable to connect the Ipod mounted in the right saddle bag so we'll see what happens. As I said, I have two Ipod Nano's (which is the recommended ipod as per Harley Davidson), an older version and a 7th generation, and the interface doesn't hold a playlist after sitting a couple of hours on either one, so its not the Ipods.

Most recently, I now have to unplug and reconnect the iPod after starting the bike because the iPod plays for a second or two and then goes silent. Once I do this the iPod stays reconnected until I shut the bike down and restart it.
