Hi guys.... just found out about this forum and love it. I have been going back and forth looking for an all around single windshield that i can use that will look good and be a single windshield because I'm sick of changing them all the time. Some of you guys are talking about no buffeting ( or reduced buffeting ) with lower fairings installed. Can anyone please explain this? How does it work? Why does it work? Will installing lower fairings be the answer to all of my wind noise and buffeting problems? I am 6'1" and I can't hear the radio at freeway speeds. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

I think most of us have figured out that the turbulent air is coming up from around the tank, under the fairing. Lowers pretty much stop that. I'm 6' and have virtually no turbulence, with my Clearview standard shield (12 1/2") high, and the Hogg Chopps lowers,on the stock seat, with an adjustable HD backrest.

I have the calmest Road Glide around. It's still a motorcycle, but the turbulence is minimal with lowers and my Clearview XL.

I wouldn't hold out much hope in finding a shield that looks cool and works. Many here have tried. I'll take form over function any day.

I'm 5'7" and use a Clearview 13" windshield with a stock seat. The wind buffeting is tolerable without lowers, but virtually nonexistent with the stock Road Glide non-vented lowers. It is a quiet smooth ride. The problem that I have with the lowers is the heat. We are averaging temps in the 90's and I can't take it much longer than 30 minutes before my bottom end is cooked. I have been thinking about taking a jig saw and modifying the lowers to allow more air to flow through.

I'm 6' and use a 12" Windvest and Hogg Chopps. I can hear the radio at 85mph and smoke a cigar.

+1! I am only 5'9", but w/the stock height Clearview and the Hogg Chopps, I have eliminated the buffeting. My Oakley's no longer bounce on my face and I can hear the radio at Highway speeds w/ease. I don't believe the Hogg Chopps block as much wind as the HD lowers, which I think is a good thing, you still feel like you're riding a motorcycle outdoors. But, they do disrupt the air enough to stop the buffeting. And, at half the price of HD lowers (painted), I think you're getting a pretty good deal.

Lowers make a big difference. But you need the right wind shield (WS)too.
I went from stock WS to a Clear View medium with vent. It was better, but still had the buffeting. From there I went to the ClearView GT large... an improvement, but still not what I wanted.
Then I got the Hogg Chopps, wow perfect... tried going back to the Clear View Medium with the HC... no still had some buffeting.
Get some lowers and then the right WS.... Respectfully --Bill

thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions.... I guess I should have told you all that I am 6'1" and have 34" inseam. I am still looking, but i will get a windshield soon.
I am the same dimensions,

I have the H-D Road Zeppelin Air seat, which is a little taller than stock. WIth this seat I use the Clearview GT Large and I have no head buffeting at all.

I do get wind blast from around the gas tank, that lowers wouls solve, but as I am heading to Sturgis for the rally, I do not want 100 degree heat and lowers on.

Kury and hog chopps

I am running a kuryakyn airmaster, which in my opinion look''s pretty good, I see over it clearly and an 6' with 32 inseam. that along with hogchopps makes the ride turbulent free. I also added the air baffle between the forks the same time as the hog chopps, eliminated the air coming up in front of the tank. Only complaint with the kury shield is its thin and shakes a bit, and no recurve, only an issue in strong head winds. Chainsaw has run both the kury and now cb, maybe he can talk about the differences, I am curious.

NO Buffeting for me

5'9" 30 inch inseam

14 inch Windvest Shield (I can see over the shield)
vented lowers
clam shell deflector under the fairings.

Nice little pocket. I can hear the radio at 90 and can smoke a cigar.

Life is good.

New guy on the block

Howdy, I am new to the roadglide family...gave up my BMW K1200LT and have no regrets! I have a 2009 Roadglide and recently took off the stock tall windshield and put on a 16" Klockwerks. I also have the new Harley "Hammock" seat which raises me up about an inch or so from stock seat. I am 5'10" with 30" inseam. I can see above the windshield nicely down the road. The buffeting is gone, and glad I made the change before my eyes vibrated out of my head. I still get the breeze around the gas tank, but now it's welcome.
