question about buffeting with lower fairings on

Hi guys.... just found out about this forum and love it. I have been going back and forth looking for an all around single windshield that i can use that will look good and be a single windshield because I'm sick of changing them all the time. Some of you guys are talking about no buffeting ( or reduced buffeting ) with lower fairings installed. Can anyone please explain this? How does it work? Why does it work? Will installing lower fairings be the answer to all of my wind noise and buffeting problems? I am 6'1" and I can't hear the radio at freeway speeds. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.
