After getting you new RG, what was the biggest surprise about it that you didn't expect?

That the radio could suck so bad!! Oh and then I would say the rear suspension for stock is better than the old air shocks. But realistically I wouldn't know much as everything has been changed before I got to ride it.the new aero package does decrease the buffeting, for stock.

The big smile stuck to my face :)

I pretty much did a lot of reseach, so there wasn't really anything about the bike that surprised me.

i am a little concerned that the front forks seems kind of mushy.

I just came from a 2010 goldwing and it had an anti-dive system on the forks, so maybe that is why it feels different.

But I have to tell you, I love this bike, really a lot. :D

Best good surprise - how well balanced the bike is.
Worst surprise - how friggin' hot it gets.
Even though it is well balanced once it's moving, I was also surprised at how top heavy it is when maneuvering at low speeds, ie under 5 MPH.

Before I finally got rid of the the stock head pipe there were a few times when I thought my Levis were actually melting to the inside of my thigh!!

The rear shocks are stiffer than I expected on my RGS. I have it backed off as far as it will go, I weight 160lbs. For me that is the only thing that sticks out.

Two surprises for me; one bad - wind management awful, good surprise, how stable it was at any speed - the fairing mount to the frame is wonderful!

This was the absolute most surprising aspect for me. I thought my awkwardness during the test ride was from coming off a 400lb crotch rocket. I recently got stuck in 1-3mph constantly moving traffic for almost half and hour and had absolute hell.. I keep thinking I just need to hit a parking lot and practice but I think a lot is the bike itself. I'm hoping a lower seat will help me with the center of gravity and put me more "in" the bike.

For the folks who think it is top heavy, 2 questions, are you on the tall side and are you running the stock bars?
This is my 5th RG, since they designed this bike for the average size person( whatever that may be) I am on the tall side and the way those bars are designed and positioned I had a tough time maneuvering at slow speeds, basically knees in handlebars on parking lot turns.
I switched out the handle bars and its now its no different than any other RG that I have owned.

For me it was how absolutely perfect the ergos became for me just by swapping the seat to my C&C solo seat that's set back about 1"+ and installing extensions that pushed the floorboards out about an inch. With all the bashing the handlebar got from the press and others, it makes perfect sense for my 6ft/250lb frame. I've got the shocks cranked up to 18, but it and the front forks could be better. Overall it does for me what a big touring bike supposed to do...take me there in decent comfort and style;)

The weight of the beast! Came from a Road King. Ride about the same. Its just a be to be fair the RG is about 150# heavier.
RK 2004 88000 miles
RG 2013 8800 miles
Still have the RK and prefer riding it when I am alone. RG does have more comfort for the passenger. Wife says the seat fits better....no further comments will be made on that subject!

Send you seat to Mean City Cycles and have then do the "super narrow with memory foam". I had them make this mod to my OEM seat and it made a huge improvement and put me more "in" the seat. I also added a Wild 1's Chubby bar which allows me to sit upright instead of leaning forward.

I was surprised at the wind buffeting on my 13 but a Madstad fixed that, also the reach to the handlebars and Heritage bars fixed that issue. I love the handling on the Roadie compared to my previous bat wings.
