Sorry for the long lead up but want those answering my question to understand my situation.

I ride a 2013 Ultra. I ride about 80% solo but during the warmer months that goes to more like 50-50. Most of the time I ride with a C&C Fastback seat that drops me down and back about an inch. I use a 12" Windvest with that seat and am very comfortable. When my wife rides with me I switch the seat to the stock ultra couch and the windshield to the stock windshield. That setup works pretty well for us except on windy days. The stock seat does put her higher and she gets some buffeting even with the tall stock shield. I'm barely 5'8" (Found out last night that I have shrunk an inch. Getting old sux!) and she is 5'3". I hate changing the shields whenever she goes for a ride with me and I like a shorter shield and my custom seat most of the time. She will ride on the fastback with the windvest but that is basically riding on the fender. She's a trooper but can only go an hour or so like that. SO.......

I am just at the border for the 11" or the 13" madstad shield. I measured accurately (straight board from chin, level and plumb) and the middle of my chin is slightly less than 6" above the radio. I think I would be comfortable with the 11" but will it do enough to keep her in calm air with the stock seat? Will the 13" be too high for me if I lower it down to ride with my custom seat? Also how much is shipping to some of you guys in Southeast Texas? If it doesn't work for her I'll send it back and keep what I have. I like their 60 day guarantee.

I'm 6'1", went with the 14.5, wife is 5'4", after getting it dialed in I have 2 settings almost all the way down around town them up 2" on the highway. The nice thing about it is how much you can adjust it. Also they well exchange the shield if it's not right. Start with the 13 and go from there. For me all the way down is below my chin.

I had the exact same problem with my RGU. I currently run an 11 in madstad. If I have the RGC seat on, my wife does just fine with the wind/buffeting. But if I have the RGU seat on the bike, she gets beat up pretty good still. If I were you, I'd go 13 in.

I concur. I have an 11" MadStad which was fine with the RGU seat. Passengers on the RGU seat get buffeting that they did not on the RGC seat. There's no difference to me as the driver, but I'm about to buy a 13" replacement screen. My 11" has been pretty beat up since the Alaska trip in 2011.

On a side note her helmet can make a difference to, mine had a Bilt, switched to a scorpion made a big difference. Also if you have a tour pack it's easy to make a couple of brackets and move it back an inch that helps to.

Being 5' 8" and shrinking... I had the 13" and swapped for 11" With the 13" and 2 up I could not lower enough to look over. Solo off interstate speeds the shield is fine at chin level dialed in around 58 degrees. Having a reworked RGU seat 2 up does have the passenger sitting much higher. Pull the shield up max and she will be happy with the air riding over her helmet

11in

My wife and I are similar heights to you and the wife. I started with a 13in which was in my line of sight on a stock Custom seat. Even with a touring saddle it was still to high until I changed to an 11in windshield.

Member here had a 13" with the holes drilled 1" higher effectively making it a 12" shield. It allowed for more shield at the bottom to hide the brackets a little more.
