A lot of folks that upgrade their radio and speakers use non-marine stuff. It doesn't really matter with the radio because the install kits have optional splash covers.

unless you're buying something like the Aquatic AV head units that are IP65 and IP66 rated then none, including the radios marketed as "marine grade" are weather proof. They simply have a conformal coating on the circuit boards and nothing whatsoever to protect the piece that makes it all work, the face plate. Not to mention when you chose marine grade stuff, you always wind up losing features and functionality over standard grade head units.

Most speakers these days have a water-resistant coating on the cones, so pay attention to that when making your decision and stay away from cones made of paper.

The head unit and weather: use common sense here. Get a good rain cover for your head unit like the VTWIN Audio piece and USE IT!
