Having just bought a 2015 RSG I am in the beginning phase of setting up all the necessities, which includes highway pegs. Looking at the dealership I found the Streamliner pegs (which match the stock boards/pedals) and they are $150!
The kicker... Right next to them are a pair of pegs (willie g skull) which appear to have the same amount of chrome and rubber... For $85.

What makes the Streamliner series so special that they are nearly double the price? I think it's because HD knows most people, at least in the beginning, will buy whatever matches stock so they can get away with charging more.

This just bothers me for some reason.

End rant.

You see them 4sale used a lot. A lot of folks put boards on the rear and sell the pegs. Keep an eye open.

HD=Hundred Dollars,i try not to buy HD brand stuff just because it is over priced, plus none of there Genuine Accessories products are made in the US as well as most after market parts,so why pay more for parts made in the same country just because it comes in a HD package.

I was going to say the same thing, I got mY pegs from a guy that was changing his rear pegs for $50. Just look around the message board for Parts for sale or something like that...

This is just a MYTH and aftermarket suppliers such as J&P get rich on this myth. HD P&A are cheaper in price and have just as good quality then most aftermarket parts and they FIT the bike too.
It is true that most HD & aftermarket P&A are not made in the USA.

Call Horny Toad HD and talk to Jon in parts. Best dealer prices I have found. Ebay for good take-offs. I rarely buy from the local dealer because they won't budge from list price.
+1 on JON from Horny Toad HD I get a lot parts from him.

this is the reason i dont buy from JP,i buy from a local shop that gives me a good discount, think MYTH if you want but i can beat any HD part by 15 to 20 percent,i have never had a fitment problem on my parts.

Thanks for the offers. Had someone reach out to me last night and I shot him money today.

Also, glad I'm not the only one that thinks HD is gouging its customers.

It still amazing this love/hate relationship has lasted this long, with no end in site. I'll buy a new bike from the dealer, but have always tried my best to never return.

Not the only one ? You mean you know someone who feels otherwise ?:D
There are Harley riders and everybody else, and the moco knows that.

It is a love/hate and it will continue on I suppose . I find most HD stuff better quality than most aftermarket as well .

However , what is wrong with the dealer and the MoCo making a profit ? That is why they are in business .. They don't make a profit : they wont be there to sell us motorsickles .. I'd hate to know I have the overhead they have .. And as a publicly owned company HD's first legal obligation is to shareholders , not consumers , beyond building a safe vehicle .

Many of you weren't riding in the dark days before the buyout , not many know how close Harley came to closing the doors forever ..

you can always go with an indian. they have a much more limited supply of aftermarket parts, and are only asking $800 for a pair of slip on mufflers. hd is a bargain comparatively.

I have never had a fitment issue or MFR defect with HD parts. Cant say that with other off brands. The only one I know that lives up to the standard is Shifter linkage from Landmark which supplies HD with the hyme joint linkage.

On the other side of the coin, be glad you dont have to get some of the limited stuff that inly comes on CVO's. Just replaced my grips on my 09 FLTRUSE3 and they are $85 each.

Profit I understand. But I'm sure the discount dealers are making a profit or they couldn't stay in business. I have trouble with local dealers who would rather loose a sale than take anything off list price. Much of the overhead is forced on the dealers by the MOCO to meet their standards for showroom looks and motor clothes sales. Back in the dark days we had mom and pop dealers who knew their product and stocked parts and had mechanics who knew the bikes. Not so in todays shiny world.
