Looking for a ride buddy to Shark Week in Canmore AB Canada.

Just starting planning but tentative plans are:

Depart July 27 or 28 from Houston and take route thru Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North for 5 or 6 days to Canmore.

Return Aug 5 from Canmore and take route to Houston thru Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico for 5 or 6 days.

Another route consideration would be thru New Mexico, Utah, Idaho,

Willing to share room with non-smoker. No camping for me.
Routes flexible. Days flexible. You plan one way and I can plan the other.

We have a few meeting up going that way ourselves. I'm east of Dallas about 30 miles and welcome you joining up. Not sure the date leaving yet but want to take the time going up and catch see and ride some great roads. I will know more by mid spring where everyone is meeting on the way up. Some coming from Florida, Alabama, etc.

Route to SW VI and back

Jimmyray,

If I had your time and money this is the route I would take to get to SWVI

From the Woodlands north thru OK city, up through the middle of Nebraska to Grand Island,Ne. Continue north to Sturgis, SD, lots going on there even before the rally, take in Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood before the rally. Continue west and making a jog north to take in Devil's Tower then head west again to Cody Wyoming.

Stay the night in Cody and take in the nightly rodeo on the west side of town.

From Cody, Wy north to Chief Joseph hwy, then on to the Beartooth pass and then thru to Red Lodge MT. From Red Lodge cut west to join i-90 for a little ways then jog up to Helena, MT. From Helena head west to Avon, MT then head north to Big Fork MT then into Kalispell, MT. From Kalispell head N then east to go into Glacier National Park and go over the "Going to the Sun" road and come out at St. Mary Montana on the east side of Glacier National Park. From St. Mary head north and cross into Canada at the Chief Mountain border crossing.

Now that you are in Canada travel north to Waterton Lakes National Park and take in the sites of this small village and the Prince of Wales hotel. From Waterton continue north to Pincher Creek, Alberta, scenic views and vistas abound along this route, watch out for free range cattle and sheep and also for wildlife such as deer, elk, moose and black and grizzly bears.

Continue north and west from Pincher Creek up highway 22, The Cowboy Trail north to Longview, Alberta. This road takes you thru the heart of Alberta's rolling ranch country, fantastic rolling foothills to the east the front range of the rockies to the west.

When you get to Longview, head west on Hwy 40 and follow that road north until you reach the host hotel, Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino, we'll be waiting for you.

I would take 5-6 days to make this ride going north arriving on the afternoon, evening of August 1, 2016.

Return Trip!!

You have that route downloaded anywhere? Like to plug that in to my GPS and see what it looks like. Also interested in Miles.

2591 miles. It won't let me use HWY 40 in Alberta because that road is closed between Dec 15, 2015 and June 1, 2016. It should shave off a couple of miles.

Depending on how you ride, 5-6 days of hard riding, 6-7 days of leisure riding or 3 days of Shrug style.

If it was me I would leave the Monday the week before SW and take 7 days to do it. I would scream through Tx, Ok, Ne and take my time after Sturgis.

I did almost this exact trip on my 8000 mile trip last year. The only difference was going thru Raton, NM then taking the highway of Legends out of Trinidad then going on north and going into Lusk, Lead, Deadwood, and into Sturgis. Also, don't forget when you leave Devils tower, hit the back roads and come out at Custer's Last Stand. It is a must see to make you understand just what he was up against. Then you can make your way to Cody by several different directions.

Jimmyray/100edition/and others, keep me in mind for hooking up with this group. From VA, I will ride 64W onto 70W, so maybe around Kansas City, we meet up for the trip? (I was planning my third night in Colby Kansas) I could ride 40W if anyone else has that route planned, let me know. I only have three weeks Vac, give/take a day. It appears my bi-polar-ex-old-lady wont know if she is going until that morning.

You know by us staying in Sturgis the week before will be so much cheeper. Let me know if you want to catch it on the way back. I was thinking on the way makes more sense. But I'm open to either. I'm not coming home for a month so let me know.

That is a great ride plan. I will be coming from central Mississippi and could connect up in Dallas or Kansas City. When the time is closer please let me know the when and where connections can be made. Looks like I will be riding alone and would love some company.
