I got lucky and was able to book 2 rooms in Rapid city at the Hampton Inn for the Rally. I will arrive early and I may leave early, but just in case it's better to cancel a day or two early than want to stay and discover the rooms are booked.

8/2 to 8/8

This will be my 4th journey but my first on my Road Glide. I booked early enough that I'm paying less than 140 a night!
I've camped twice and between heat, rain, long lines at the shower and porta potties, I deserve the plush comforts of the Hampton.

If you haven't booked, do it now. There are a few hotels with rooms left in the area, but you will find prices ranging 250-450 a night. If my buddy cancels I'll sell you the room for a nominal increase over what I paid.:D

If you haven't been there, do yourself a favor and you will see some of the most beautiful riding areas there are. Yea, the traffic can be bad, the weather unpredictable and the cops in a foul mood, but it's worth it.

Anyone else already made arrangements and going? I hope to watch this thread grow with more anxious riders filled with excitement. Someone will
bring the negativity that it's to crowded and not worth the effort to attend cause back in the old days blah, blah, blah.

The ride is spectacular and the scenery is amazing. That much isn't debatable.

Ride on.

I booked 3 nights at the HoJo near downtown rapid city sun-tues.... Were only staying 3 days in rapid city then we decided to head down and stay 2 nights in Estes park Colorado.....

Rather than making our entire trip about sturgis were making it more of an ultimate getaway with cool adventures along the way.... Lol

$15 a night at the campground I always stay at. Never any lines at the clean showers and bathrooms either. I guess I'll keep this place a secret :D

I Plan on making my 7th trip there next year for a day or two. Before heading to Shark Week IV in Maine.

Sturgis is the Super Bowl of Motorcycles.. I've never had a bad time in the Black Hills. And I've been there when its rained all week. Vacations are all what you make of it.

And riding there on your Road Glide is the recipe for your best trip yet... Enjoy!!!

Went to Sturgis after Shark Week III. Must say I had more fun at SW. True, the riding in the area is beautiful but I found the crowds tedious. True, lots of cool bikes but after the first 100, kind of tedious. I like loud pipes but after the first 1000, a bit tedious. Bare tits? After the first 50 pairs, not tedious at all but spending $300 for a crappy motel in Rapid City was more than tedious. I know attitude is everything but I have found Sturgis is not quite for me. But I can say I have been there and done that! Perhaps instead of solo I had been with a buddy who had been there before it would have been more fun.The above posts are right on: vacation is what you make it and now is the time to make arrangements for next year. Sturgis this year was a last minute for me and I paid for it. As I said I had a bit of an attitude already when I hit town. Cheers to all and maybe see you in Maine.

I've stayed at the same house in Whitewood for years, it's 10 miles from Strugis/Deadwood. Nine bedrooms, hottub, pool table, bar, smoke cigars in any room, 4 bathroomns...oh, and it don't cost me a dime. Love rally!

No, it is for sure not the Chip. I love to go there and see concerts and everything else. But sleeping at the Chip in a tent is difficult. Way to noisy and over crowded. I can't imagine there bathrooms and showers having no lines either.

And being that I grew up in N.H. I will share the secret  PM sent

I have booked already my two bedroom cabin for next year. This will make my 4 trip out to sturgis. Don't shoot me but I trailer out and back from Maine. Rather spend more time out there riding the hills. One of these years I might ride out and back. I spend just under two weeks out in the area riding just about every where you can. Great place to ride.

Not knocking trailering but I never understood how you can make better time trailering unless there is more then one driving and you drive non-stop. We stopped in Sturgis for a couple days on the way back from SW then I made a leisurely 2 day 1300 mile ride home.

Hoping to head back next year, then on to SW. Sturgis to Shelburne is about 2000 miles as the crow flies but doubt we'll be doin' the crows route L:eek:L
