Yup, I just did my 16 last weekend. The only thing I did different after talking to a couple of builders was, as the hose comes off the top of the breather bolts, I ran it up hill some and then back down the frame to just below the oil filter hanging below the frame about 3/4". Didn't use a catch can. The rise up in the hose allows the engine to breath but not puke oil. Any oil that pools in the hose, goes back in the top end when it's not running. At least that is the theory. Now if you don't do the upward direction with the hose, a catch can will can the oil that normally goes into the intake. So far I've been checking the bottom of the engine and have not witnessed any oil what so ever. This should help with the buildup on to of the pistons from the oil not going into the intake now.I've got a 13 RG with stage 1 kit. Thinking of putting a crankcase breather on it that bypasses the air cleaner. Worth the money ? Benefits from it other than not having the oily mess in bottom of filter?
I'll try and post pics of mine today. I did similar, but where the T between the hoses is, I took off the short piece of hose that sent it to the intake, put a long piece on, turned the T up and routed the hose over to the right and drilled a hole just smaller than the hose in the filter plastic housing on the right top side. I then ran it over to the front downtime and down. Good pic of how you did it.I added one also, I just changed out the breather bolts to the ones that have the nipples on them, then ran tubing out the back plate, down the frame to just before the passenger floor boards... No filter or anything...
Not sure, I know mine (2012 FLTRX) had the breather bolts that vented inside the back plate, there was a small passage in the back plate that allowed the oil to flow into the intake, which intern just blew the oil all over the filter and eventually saturated the filter and it started dripping and blowing all over my leg and saddlebag... For a time I used feminine pads stuck to the bottom inside of the air cover but got tired of the jokes of by bike needing to change its pad...Doesn't the newer bikes have the rubber hose for the crankcase breather anyways? If they do it would seem that it would be a easy mod.
Yes, just pull the small s shaped hose off the T, get a longer one (I bought a 3' piece) hooked it up to the T and went out of the plastic air box thru a hole a little smaller than the hose for a air tight fit and routed it down. Works good.Doesn't the newer bikes have the rubber hose for the crankcase breather anyways? If they do it would seem that it would be a easy mod.
How does the oil re-enter the motor? The vent system has one way rubber umbrella check valves that only allow flow to exit.Yup, I just did my 16 last weekend. That is for venting the crankcase with the pistons going up and down. The oil goes back into the engine just like the other oil from the pushrods down thru the oil return holes. How does the oil re-enter the motor? You should not block the breather vents... That particular filter probably uses mounting bolts that double as breather bolts...K and N has a air filter kit that just blocks the breather vents. Is this a bad Idea?

Not important at all. The breather valves in the rocker covers only go one way and that's out. Absolutely no reason to have a filter on it.I got my breather kit in and hooked up. How important is it to run the filter on the end? Sure would be much easier to hid the hose end without the filter on it
That would be a good system to tap and thread a nipple into on the top side. On the others, you have to fill the breather hole with epoxy or silicon first. You should not block the breather vents... That particular filter probably uses mounting bolts that double as breather bolts...
Like what you did...Interested in how you went about it as I have the same backplate...hope you don;t mind but I sent you a PM inquiring more info.I added one also, I just changed out the breather bolts to the ones that have the nipples on them, then ran tubing out the back plate, down the frame to just before the passenger floor boards... If you start dripping some oil after riding, just re-route the hose up instead of down from the backing plate. Go up to under the tank and follow the backbone along the overflow hose from the tank and down the frame with it to the ground. I zip tied it to that hose. No more drips and works perfect. Finally got those pics for you...
Basically I just drilled a hole and picked up some gas line and hose couplers from the autoparts store... Then ran it down the to the ground...
