Now that Howard Stern is back on for 5 years, I'm wanting to expand my satellite radio so I can listen on my RG. Anyone have any good or bad luck with any certian radio or mounting system? I'm not looking to replace the headunit, just get a handle bar mounted portable or the like....

I have the XM module module in the fairing which I prefer....but depending on what you need you could get ZUMO GPS with the Sat & MP3 option. It's portable and multi-functional.

I have the XM module in my RG. IMHO, it's a POS. Reception is totally dependent on direction of travel due to the antenna being mounted inside the fairing. A buddy of mine has the zumo 550 with xm capability and loves it.

I had the antenna for my xm mounted inside the fairing, and the only time I really had a reception issue was when I was downtown and surrounded by tall bulidings

In the mountains area I lose signal as well...otherwise I have had no issue with my module. The Zumo route is a great option.

RADIO: I have Sirius Satellite radio on my bike. The radio is the older Sportster 4 model (2006) which I purchased used. I have had no issues at all. However I have heard that these units aren't very durable on a motorcycle. Of course I found out about the possible durability factor after I bought it. Then again is anything Made in China durable??

MOUNT: The mounting system I have is the RAM Mount with 'short arm'. There are several arm length's available. Installation of the mount on the handlebar was very easy.

POWER: I purchased a two hole cigarette lighter socket adapter and mounted it inside the fairing (yes the joy of removing the RG fairing!!). I tapped into the back of the motorcycle cigarette lighter for power. Its all plug and play from here.

AUDIO: 1/8" cord from back of the Satellite Radio docking unit to the auxillary input on the HD radio.

ANTENNA: The magnetic antenna, that came with the radio kit, is mounted on a small metal plate that is attached to the license plate. If I don't have a passenger there is no reception problems...... when carrying a passenger the Satellite signal does get blocked for a few seconds once in a while. On a trip to the Rocky Mountains (with passenger) I just moved the antenna to the top of the 'pile' on the luggage rack and tucked the wire under a bungee cord...not a single interuption for the entire trip.

I also have the XM module..... I wanted nothing mounted on my handlebars..
I like the clean look.

but on the other hand, IF you own a smartphone or an iPhone, Howard will also be included on the Sirius/XM app in his new contract!
and you can plug your phone into the aux jack on the radio... nothing extra to buy........

I was glad to hear Howard re-signed too. I have a lifetime subscription I purchased for $300 back in 2006 that came with a Sportster radio. I've mounted it all over the bike, including in the left glove box and duct taped to the tank trim.

Is the XM/Sirius capability on a smartphone included or does it cost extra. When I bought my Samsung Epic phone in August, I did a 7-day trial of Sirius Radio, but I didn't pay for it. Now that Howard has re-signed, I wonder if I can get it. I can pull in my PC subscription (included with lifetime deal) over my phone's wi-fi connection and listen on a PC, but the stream will not play over the phone's browser.

Another vote for the Zumo 550 with the GXM30 antenna.

One head unit, the antenna and Cardo headset gives me XM/MP3/GPS/Real Time Traffic/Real Time Weather/Cell Phone interface with caller ID and touch screen access to all my contacts, as well as voice dial at 70 MPH & Rider-Passenger Intercom all one neat waterproof, shockproof, touch screen package.

The real nice thing is I bought a mount for all three bikes (~$80 each) and an extra headset for the work helmet (~$35) In a couple of minutes the whole works is portable from bike to bike, helmet to helmet...

I use an XM Inno, mounted at the same exact spot that CRAIG2 has his at. I drilled holes into the bars, and rivoted the mount on. My antenna is on my inner fairing above the left hand glove box.

On my Ultra I used the Inno on a belt holster, and just hung that on my windshield. Since the Innos are portable MP3/Satellite radios, the don't need an external antenna unless its docked so I would just run off its own power. It would last me about 6 hours of riding everyday.

yes, if you already have the internet radio package, then you can get it on the Android app..... just download the app and sign in like you would on the PC.;)

Didn't work for me. Says I can have a 7 day trial and then pay an additional $9 per month. I'll pass. I haven't paid a nickel since my lifetime subscription started in 2006 and I'm not starting now.

I have a Sirius Starmate Replay that I've had on the bike since 2005. I like the old models better because they have the full-power FM transmitters in them. They work well enough that two bikes riding together will pull the same signal easily. Never had a bit of a durability issue with it. I ran the antenna wire under the gas tank and the antenna itself magnet mounts to the back of my luggage rack. Hard wired it to the fairing and used a square of velcro to stick it above the warning lights and below the gauges. Works perfectly and doesn't look out of place.

You can still find the old radios on Ebay. It's worth paying for an activated radio....trust me on that.

That is true, this last Inno I bought has already paid for itself. I paid $50 for it (which is already a steal), and when I called to activate it, the guy at XM told me it still has 2 1/2 years left on the subscription. :) All he had to do was send a refresh thingie to it and it was back up and rocking. I just gotta remember to not be mad when I call them and tell them it no longer works in 2 1/2 years to activate it :D
