No feedback to provide, but this could solve the issue: Sun Visor Harley-Davidson 6.5 Boom!™ Box Infotainment system

 

I want to order this part but I have never even heard of the company "Robin's Hoods." Has anyone ever dealt with them? This part looks like a cure for the glare problem if it's legit.

 

Have you tried switching to the high contrast screen yet ?

Switching to contrast screen works for me! Just hold down the "i" until it changes - same to go back

Awesome I was going to post if anyone knew anything about this product. I'll wait for your review. I'm assuming it would work for those of us that have the standard roadglide which doesn't have the larger screen also.

Edited to say: after going to the website it states for 6.5" Boom system screen, so evidently it only fits those with the large screen.

 

Interested in any reviews as well.

The glare comes from the sun at your back, that shield isn't gonna do a thing. Other than look cool.

 

I was thinking that But maybe it Shields enough of the light to give you a better view. I’ll let you know

+1 on this - my problems are always from sun at my back particularly early morning or late afternoon, so this device won't do anything for that.

Shame on Harley for not doing anything about this after 4 years of bitching by the riders!@!!

Shows that they are only in for the money and not customer satisfaction.

I got a product from NuShield. Its designed to fit the 6.5" screen. Visibility is much better, not perfect, but worth the $20 in my opinion.

 

IMO this is the #1 problem with the Rushmore Roadglides. If the MOCO does not address this with the release of the 2019 models it will be a big surprise to me.

 

I ordered the Nushield kit for my RG, which covered the nav. screen and the gauges. It keeps the glare from blinding you, but you still can't read the nav. screen when the sun is on it. It is better than nothing.

 

If you can see the screen and just not read it, press the info button to change it to black and white, much easier to read. But if it's in "that" position of all glare and you can't even see the screen, change the direction your going. You wanted to explore that side road anyway.

I really can’t see how it could be fixed. If the sun is hitting it, there is going to be glare.

If you put something to block sun, it’s gonna block your vision.

Between changing the contrast with the info button and installing a shield from https://www.nushield.com/ mine is pretty good. Not perfect, but good enough. Although I might be interesting in the shield that has been described in this thread.

However, for the most part, glare in most cases is not constant, so I can live with the changes that I have made.

 

Update on my order. The company emailed me apologizing for the delay. They had a backlog. It is supposed to ship Thursday (ordered Sunday).

Screen Glare.

A discovery I made this weekend was with sun glasses on could barely see the screen, with them off it was way better then yellow lens I could see everything just fine unless the sun was directly behind me.

 

I'm going to try museum glass this winter. Report next spring.

I received an email that the visor shipped today, priority mail. It took a week to ship which is average. Communication was good. I'll review the visor after about 100 miles of riding, especially with my back to the sun.

 

I ordered mine on last Thursday (8/23), just sent them an email. Heading out Wednesday and was hoping to have it by then. I don't think I will hear anything tonight. See what happens tomorrow. Again, thanks for the information on the Hood.

 

For example, I have GPS units in both my GMC pick-up and my Acura; the Acura has a shield over it and the GMC does not. There is no sun coming in from the back of either vehicle. The Acura never has any glare and the GMC has glare when the sun is directly overhead and coming straight down onto the windshield. So, it appears that the shield over the GPS on the bike will help "some" when the sun is overhead, but not when the sun is behind you, coming over your shoulder. I am satisfied with the Nushield keeping me from being blinded since I don't use the GPS for navigation (so far), just to let me know what the road ahead is doing. Just my $0.02...

 

Judge, your evaluation is 100% spot on! The Hood helps when the sun is at most angles except directly behind you; setting the Boom! Box screen to high contrast mode helps most, but nothing helps when the sun hits it directly...

Same issue with OEM film suddenly bubbling up 10 months after delivery and no... no love from HD.

I've decided to give the NuShield anti-glare film a try. I'll pull the head unit to remove the old film and do the NuShield installation when the NuShield shows up in a few days. I've had the head unit out several times as I went out adding an aftermarket AMP, Line Levelers, etc, so no big deal: takes all of 20 minutes.

Hopefully the NuShield will help with the glare off the 6.5's screen. I'm also tempted to de-chrome the instrument gauge trim rings as they also seem to reflect a lot of glare.

 

Ok, just got an email back from “Robin”, seem that the orders are 3-5 business days out and then 1-3 days shipping. She said something about her husband had surgery last week? Hope he’s doing better. Looks like I’m not going to have it anytime soon. Not sure why, but, I felt like I was bothering her...lol Kinda like asking the ole lady something when she’s agitated.... she’s agitated most of the time...!

 

Mine will be here in two days. I hope to have a review and some pics by next week.

 

Fresnel Lense

Has anyone ever tried something like this Fresnel Lense?

I've never had my hands on one of these sheets, so I don't know if it would work or not. What I'm thinking, is that it would magnify the light coming out of the Boom's screen, while the light coming in the opposite direction (sun at your back) would be scattered at different angles do to the prisms.

(Another question in my head about this type of thing; Placing one over your license plate, could it scatter the light so that red light, turn pike cameras could not read your plate? Its probably illegal to so something like that, but I've wondered if it would work.)

I think some people put them in the rear window of their campers, to get a better view of what's behind them.

About the lic. Plate. Those cameras flash light at the plate to take advantage of it's reflective parts. So anything over the plate will cause glare to the cameras. And it's illegal here.

Sorry bout the screen film tandemgeek, Harley in Myrtle Beach replaced mine when I had the same problem. Try a different dealer, it should be covered bro

 

Visor came today. It's a good fit and a well made piece. It installs in 2 seconds, since there are only 2 pieces of vertical tape holding it on. It is hotter than the surface of the Sun right now near Philly so I won't be testing it today. I'll give a review once I get a few miles in at dawn and dusk. BTW,The orange sticker on the top comes off.

 

I stopped myself for buying it because I have the chrome frame around the boombox. Do you think it could fit with it?
