I installed manual compression releases in my 09 with 103 with SE 255 cams a few weeks ago what a difference. So much better now. If you're running 255's in a 103 without releases get them you will be much happier. Other than the machine work it can be done at home with manual a good set of hand tools and a couple torque wrenches. You will also need a couple torque wrench adapters for the rocker boxes and rocker arms. I purchased mine from McMaster-Carr industry supplie. For something like $35.

They do make a big difference.
Here's a little tidbit I learned yesterday that you may want to file.
My bike is a 103, with a SE pro racing stage 3 kit, 255 cams, manual releases, and head work. Over the last few months I would occasionally have hard starting issues and couldn't figure it out. The bike finally stranded me yesterday and I was pissed thought maybe it was a compensator issue as all the Harley techs told me that was the problem. Note - they didn't actually diagnose the problem just told me that's what I needed which I didn't believe.
So, after tinkering with it for 3 hours I finally figured out my fuel check valve is having issues. I unplugged it, plugged it right back in, and vroom she fired right up. Seems the fuel check valve can act almost like an d vapor lock.
So, since the manual releases would pop after a couple revolutions the bike would kick back and spit out the AC if it didn't start.
You can check it by simply unplugging your fuel line (being careful not to lose or damage the I ring),plug it back in, and see if she fires.

That is a good tip. Would it apply to a 2006 with SE stage 2? Is there a compression release for that vintage?
