I met with my son in Brush, Colorado on Friday afternoon. We went to Bridge Port in Nebraska when rain caught us and took refuge in one of 2 motels there. Got up the next morning and went to Hill City SD and that afternoon rode to Mt. Rushmore. Left this morning and did 500 miles back. Had a great thousand mile round trip with my son! Just wish we had done it sooner, but later better than never. Right? Anyway, that area of SD needs more than one day to discover what it has to offer. We is going back next year:) We sure had a great time. Wish I had done it so many years ago. He really thanked me for giving him the course leading to being licensed to drive a mc, and helping him out buying his mc. Made me feel like a million!

Great story and glad you found the time. Family the most important and to enjoy on the MC is even more special.

I have a close friend who retired and bought a place in Custer, so me and some other friends go up there 3-4 times a year. Have ridden every paved road in the black hills and some of the dirt ones also. Love going up there, never gets old. Hill City is one of our favorite stops. The Silver Dollar on the south side of town. Great chicken wings and pizza.

We ate at the Silver Dollar I believe. You can dine and drink in an open air patio right on the street. There was a real cute waitress who started singing with a guy along to a Sheryl Crowe duet. They were fantastic. Needless to say, she received a real good tip. Now that I think of it, the hamburger was called a "mangy burger", so maybe it wasn't the Silver Dollar. Still had a great time there.

That is the Mangy Moose. Fun place during bike week.

Sounds like a great trip with your son. I live just up the road from you and I love the Hill City area too. That area would be a great place to retire, wouldn't it?

Yes it definitely would. I kinda like the smaller "mountains" compared to the monsters here in Colorado. Plus there are motorcycles every where and it seems like the cagers are accustomed to watching out for them. We saw quite a bit of wildlife there during our short excursion also. I was just thinking that it would have been an awesome place to have had SW4, maybe SW5? You must live in the Pueblo area.
