Some here have heard of my father’s passing late this pass July. I managed some time off work and will be taking September off.

Here’s the plan ride. I leave this Saturday. Will be heading out to Vancouver to meet up with my brother that I have not seen in 26 years to settle the final matters in my father`s Estate.
GOOGLE MAP DETAILED LINK

It’s a surprise – He does not know I’m coming. I will be coordinating my arrival and meeting with him through my nephew (my brother’s 22 year old son).
So I plan to take my time, I won’t be in any hurry. I will be passing through the USA side of the border after Day 2 or 3. The plan is to spend one or two days at Hotrodad’s place (Ken) at the end of my 1st day’s ride, Nat might be with me the first few days(decision still pending). Ken offered to accompany me up to the US border on day 2 (or 3) and then it’s solo riding for the rest of my journey.

The rest of the trip I will be camping or staying in motels depending on the weather.

Any advice you have to share with me is more than welcomed on places to stay or avoid that is on my planned route. I won’t be doing much of the tourist thing on my way West but I might take in a few sites on my way back East if everything went smoothly on the 1st leg of the trip out West.
Also I wanted to ask if anyone knows of a good HD Dealer way up north somewhere between West Montana and East Washington that I can order a set of new tires and get an oil change while passing through that won’t be too much off my planned route I’ve attached (click on GOOGLE MAP DETAILED LINK above to see the whole route)?

I’ll be posting a link to a blog that I will try and update with pictures and ride events for anyone that might be interested in following the adventure. I don’t know what kind of discipline I will have for updating it or this thread for that matter or how easy it will be getting free hotspots or Wi-Fi connections. But I’ll do my best to keep you posted :).

Peace.

DR,

If you want to take the northern route home through BC and Alberta, give me a shout, you have a place to stay in Calgary for as long as you would like.

Troy

Lone Wolf Harley exit 293 I-90. When you get to Bonner's Ferry continue south on US 95 to Coeur'd'Alene and take I-90 west. This will take you right to Lone Wolf.

From there you can pickup US 2 again quite easily or backtrack north to hit 20 west.

I called your brother,,, he knows

kidding:cool:

Wow what an epic ride Peter! Wish I could do it with you.

From my house to Sault Saint Marie is 7h 1m but i say we'll do it in 6 (or so). It will be a breeze as it is all good roads. Shouldn't be any construction since its a long weekend except one lane for bridge construction somewhere around Espanola. Hope Nat is up to 12+ hours of riding to the border with us. If not she is welcome to hang back with my wife and do "girly" things like shopping:eek:. or I'll give up my pedicure/manicure appt she can have!:D

Let me know when your leaving and maybe I'll meet you at Mackie's HD (HWY 401 and Thickson rd.) Then its under two hours to my house for BBQ!

Cheers bro and safe journeys
enjoy the ride

Thanks Troy. I might just want to go by that route. I'll let you know for sure once I know that when I'll head out back East. Thanks again for the offer.

Ken, I'll call you the night before I leave to confirm. Meeting 2 hours from your place sounds risky...you sure you know the way? jk ;) It would be great to ride to your place with an escort :) I'll be in touch.

I got a place to park in North Vancouver about 15 KM north of Burnaby. Buddy of mine works for EA Games will put me up for 1 or 2 nights...don't want to over extend my stay. Thanks for the offer. I still don't know how long I will park it there...might want to head home faster or stay and visit a bit...all depends on various factors...if I stay longer I'll try and reach out to you for a meet&ride..

Sorry to hear about your Dad!

If your staying in North Van, Take a day for a ride up the Sea to Sky Highway, it is fantastic. Hwy 3 Heading East through BC into Alberta is a beautiful ride also.

Safe travels.

Couple of options to think about when you get closer. That route you have from Spokane is the best one out to the coast . Done it a few times a good stop before you head up over the mountains and really comitt yourself is a little western town Winthorp also a place called Twisp lodging there and a few B&Bs. Once you leave you are you are a good day from Vancouver. If your pressed for time Spokane down the interstate to Bellvue then up I-5 is a 8-9 hr trip. And the two options for crossing back over is Sumas (turn right at Everston Hwy 9 and go 15 minutes to Sumas ) or the one you have picked 264 both are flat and you can roll the bike no problem.Stay away from Peace Arch it up hill If your comming to the border on the weekend and its the afternoon you might want the Sumas one .From Abbotsford into North Van , maybe a hour and a bit. I like to ride out that way so we could maybe meet somewhere out there and run back to town and get you over some of the construction and bridges

A lot of us have been thru simialar situaitions and some times its moments like this that change your outlook on life. I know for me it was a trip down the California Coast and some time on the bike by myself and it was something i will never forget. So many people never take that leap and i often wonder what it would be like to not follow your intowitions. Good luck and safe travels . Subscribed

I've recently been to both Spokane Harley and Coeur D'Alene Harley good access and good people. Prices are way better in States.

Highway 20 through the N Cascades is a beauty ride. Check out Winthrop for the Wild West flavor. Jacks Pub is a good place for lunch

I'll echo Connector. Door is open here in Surrey too
