Just recently got back from touring Northern California. While we were in Yosemite our planned exit from the park heading to Bridgeport where we had reservations for the night was closed due to the fires. So our detour added an extra 100 miles to that days ride and it was already approx 4:30 in the afternoon. Our route took us thru the Sonora Pass at over 9700 feet. By the time we reached the 26% grade it was 8:30 PM cold, pitch dark, smoke covered and no artificial light. The only illumination we had was from our bikes. The guy leading was very careful leading us thru and later said he was worried about deer and such, hell I was worried about running into Sasquatch.I am from North Carolina and always thought the Dragon was a ride,I am here to tell you Sonara at night makes the Dragon look like a worm. It is something I am glad i did and all 22 bikes made it thru. It was a hell of a ride, but at night I don't think i want to have to do that again.

I'am so glad I rode HYW 120 over Tioga pass on my way to SWIII. We stopped right at that ridge and took pictures at the overlook. It will take years for it to grow its beauty back.

Glad to see you got through safe. You have to come back when there are no fires and smoke in the day. It is an incredible ride!

WOW! I've ridden Sonora pass several times, it's a great ride, very scenic in the daylight, but I wouldn't want to do it at night, especially with the smoke from the fires.
Glad you made it through ok.

Wow! Cheated death again... That's a great ride. Too bad you missed the scenery. I don't know if I'd even do it at night. Well... maybe with the new Halogen lights.

Thanks guys we had a blast riding thru Northern California, we started in Reno, to Lassen State Park to Redding, then to the Redwood Forrest back down to Trinidad Bay, into Eureka , thru the avenue of the Giants, down Hwy 1 thru Fort Bragg, into Napa Valley with a tour of a winery, thru Sonoma, into San Fransisco, across the Golden Gate, to Monterey, down Hwy1 over to Fresno, to Yosemite, across Sonora into Tahoe, and back into Reno almost 1800 miles. What a beautiful place you guys live in.Beautiful and expensive that is,and how do you keeps your bikes from pinging with the 91 octane fuel.I am partial to the wonderful roads we have around Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee, and Southern Virginia, but the vastness beauty, and the ride along the Pacific Ocean of Northern California is unmatched.

Sonora at night in the dark? Scary to say the least. Glad to hear all made it out ok. Sonora to Ebbets pass during daylight was one of the most challenging days I've had to date. It's unfathomable to imagine it in the dark. The 101st marine mountain division ranges practice there. Sasquatch moved out when they moved in.
