Speaker waterproofing

Hey guys I have been tying to find some info about waterproofing my new speakers. I installed the biketronics 6X9 in my lids and they are leaking into the bags. I did see where there is a couple of holes where the old speaker holding brackets are at. I will fill those those in with silicone. My concern is the water building up on the speakers. I read on another thread somewhere where some one used pantyhose to cover the speaker to help water proof it. I am not sure who did that and I have tried searching on here about it but could not find it. If anyone has done this did they spray anything like 3M on it to help make it water proof? Also would you just put it over the speaker or on the grill. if on the grill how would you get it to stick.
Thanks,
Mark

Take black panty hose and cut it to cover the speaker and spray it with never wet. I think that is what it's called. Then put the panty hose between the speaker and grill. Friend of mine did this on his boat.

yep, a friend in a stereo shop told me to just use some water repellent spray like you would for shoes or boots or a tent and such. wont' harm the speaker, and it will waterproof it. you can water proof a paper towel with that stuff.
