Start your planning, here comes another BBQ Run. I am getting lazy so I decided not to go that far afield. I did happen to find a new BBQ operation here in St. Louis that is positively awesome.

The dates are April 17,18,19.

The BBQ will come from Sugarfire Smokehouse. Check out their web page for all the details. We will hit their site in St. Charles, as it is only about 4 miles from St. Charles Harley-Davidson.

Activity schedule is still up in the air as well. One idea was to ride on Saturday, head over to Alton and lunch at Fast Eddie's Bon-Aire. Then ride up the Mississippi River towards Grafton, cross the Illinois on the Brussels Ferry, and ride around Calhoon County. Too bad it is springtime, no Peaches yet. From Calhoon county we can take the Golden Eagle Ferry across the Mississippi back into St. Charles County and head for BBQ. An alternate route would be to head north thru Calhoon Co. and cross the Mississippi at Louisiana MO, come down Highway 79 and W (great ride) and then to BBQ.

No party room this time, but if the weather cooperates, they do have a large parking lot, and (get this) Curbside Service. The St. Charles location used to be a Drive In, and they have a few Picnic tables as well.

Start up your planners. For those coming from out-of-town, there are plenty of rooms available in St. Charles, most at reasonable rates (not sure what the Casino charges for their rooms). Watch this space for more details.

Update - 10/15/14

Reservations open after 6:00 pm on 10/15/14

We have a block of rooms set aside for us at the Holiday Inn Express that is across the street from Sugarfire. There are 30 rooms in the block, and the rates are as follows;

Standard, 1 King: $102.00/night
Standard, 2 Queens: $112.00/night

This covers Friday, 04/17/15 and Saturday, 04/18/15.

group access code: BBQ

Get them now, when they are gone, the are gone. There is no overflow. The Hotel may have additional rooms available at the regular rate with whatever discount you may qualify for (AARP/AAA or whatever).

Cut off date is March 27, 2015. After that, remaining rooms will be released and the discount is no longer available. A credit card will be required to guarantee reservations. Individual reservations may be cancelled up until 6:00PM on the day of arrival without charge. Cancellations made after 6:00PM or no-shows will be charged for one nights room and tax charges to their guarantee credit card. That is normal hotel policy.

++++++++++++++++++++++

Here is the planned schedule:

Meet at 9:00 am at St. Charles Harley-Davidson. This will be to get the first group photo. It might be a bit nuts there as the HOG Chapter has a Poker Run scheduled for that date. Just look for the Orange Road Glide with the Yellow Helmet.

Leave there around 10:00 to head over to Fast Eddies in Alton for Lunch. Fast Eddies opens at 11:00, and if you are late, the lines get real looooooooong! They only take Cash, so bring greenbacks. The ATM there is expensive. You don't need too much, unless you can eat more than an Army Battalion. Food there is cheap and good (check out the Hot Chick on a Stick!). They do have a 1 drink minimum (that explains the cheap food), but Soda counts.

After Lunch, around 12:30 or so, we will leave Fast Eddies and head north up the Mississippi, and then the Illinois Rivers for a good ride (ride plan is attached somewhere in this thread). The ride will bring us back to St. Charles Harley-Davidson at some time (who knows, depends on how I feel).

Between 5:30 and 6:00, meet up at Sugarfire BBQ in St. Charles. No program planned, just a bunch of friends gathering for Dinner. No big room this time either. They have outdoor seating, and a covered area for pickups, which we may take over (it used to be a Dog N Suds Drive in).

After Dinner, nothing big planned. There is a beer joint right down the street from Sugarfire that is supposed to be good. I am not a bar-hopper so don't ask me about bars. I have heard Main Street in St. Charles can be interesting.

Once again, a reminder. Missouri IS a Helmet Law state. The Ride Plan will go thru Illinois, which is NOT a Helmet Law state, but it will come back thru Missouri. Just wanna make sure nobody contributes to any city's municipal budget.

Edit: 10/7/14 - Dates are fixed (April 17,18,19) as of now. If you do not like them, you can blame Moonbeam (aka Calgaryglide), he's coming down from Calgary, renting a bike and this was one of his open weekends so this is it. Hey, it is far enough out there, most of you should be able to get here.

For those seeking lodging, look around Exit 229 on I-70. Lots of hotels around there, including a Casino (if you are in to that). There are also some west of there on I-70. We will be doing our meetups at St. Charles Harley-Davison, which is at Exit 225 (hotel right across the highway). Unfortunately, for those fly/ride folks, St. Charles HD does not do rentals. But Doc's HD in Kirkwood does, they are the closest and a great bunch of folks.

Facebook Event here. If you cannot get there, anybody who's been invited can invite friends. The only thing I ask is to make sure guests arrive with someone on a Road Glide. Otherwise, whatever they ride is good.

Looks like there is a Sleep Inn and a Holiday Inn close to Sugarfire Smokehouse near route 370. Sleep Inn looks to be about $89 ($102 with taxes) per night for senior rate. Good reviews.

Could not fine event on Facebook.

Is it an open invitation to all shark tank members?

Yup, I just don't have all of them as friends on Facebook. My other problem is, on Facebook there is no way to tag friends as to any category, so I do not know who is RG and who is something else (i.e. my local HOG chapter friends who do NOT know the joys of riding a Road Glide, yet).

I prefer to use Facebook to keep a count as it is easier to do so there rather than here.

One thing to realize about BBQ joints. They only cook so much meat per day, and when it is gone, they are done. You are then SOL, come back tomorrow. So, I like to get a basic idea of how many are coming so I can let them know. If they know they will have, say 50, extra diners coming on a certain day, they will cook more so they can make sure nobody goes away hungry.

As with the Memphis Run, this will be order off the menu, rather than catered. You order, you pay, you eat. I do not want to decide what you have for dinner. They have so much to select from, I would not know where to begin.

Thanks. Not a big fan of facebook, but I have this in the calendar for the wife and I. We spent a weekend in St. Charles years ago, it was wintertime. We've always wanted to go back when the weather was nicer.

We will plan on going. I will wait to see what hotels are favored by the group before reserving a room.
I sent you an invite on FB.

Thanks Motofan. Maybe we can get the Indy crew to ride out together.

You gonna suggest a motel for everyone to stay in? Would be nice to stay together rather than scattered all over.
Yes, that would be nice. Are most going to stay near the Sugarfire Smokehouse or near the HD dealership?

If your are coming up, let me know. Cards vs Giants, Games 1 & 2 of the NLCS. :D

There is a Country Inn and Suites right across the highway from the dealership. Several members have stayed there that I know of, and I have not heard anything negative from them. If that is suitable, we can make that the unofficial hotel for the out o'town folks. They have an online meeting request form, so I filled it out, requesting 40 rooms. See what happens.
