Not always. The actual run on the dyno was the best $$$$ I spent, after the first dealership used a canned map when installed Stage 2. Night and day difference. I think it shows attention to detail and the right place to get 'er done.
My 2019 RGS is still stock but a Stage II is likely after warranty expires April 2021. I would probably do it myself. Regarding dyno, if you have a REAL tuner that is good at what he does it is always money well spent. It's also good to get input from them in advance regarding best combination of parts for your desires. I never used Fuel Moto but they appear to know their stuff and will be scoping them out! I did a couple different builds on my '02 FXSTi over the years. First one went from 88" to 95" with Andrews 37 cam, ported heads, SE intake and slip-ons. The second was a few years later when I had a crank issue and popped in an S&S stroker crank and went to 107". Both times I used a canned map for break-in but after the dyno tune it was night and day.
