if i were to do stage one ac and slip on exhaust would I need a tuner and would I gain anything from this, ( don't want to do the tuner if I don't have to.]

I'm not sure whether you're talking about slip-on mufflers or head-pipes... maybe even both of these two different components that make up the exhaust system? Either way though, here's a pretty good thread that's on almost the same issue. It might give you some ideas and prompt specific questions you may want to ask here in your thread:

I have the heavy breather from HD and a set of CFR slip-ons. I dont run a tuner and have no problems. Of course if you run a tuner you will get som emore out of it. I was told by a few local bagger companies and the dealer that you can run up to 2 of the 3 with no tuner (slip-ons, open header, and/or different breather.)

I honestly don't think there's a whole lot of power to be gained by changing much of anything unless you do add a tuner anyway. The root problem is the lean A/F ratio in the first place.

I still maintain that the safest and most reasonable thing to do is go to at least a true full Stage 1 (mufflers, pipes, air cleaner, and tuner) or...

If you want some decent sound ASAP, just change the mufflers first and then go to the rest later.

How much HP does anyone believe is added by changing mufflers AND either the air cleaner or the pipes without also improving the lean A/F ratio to match those changes? Why even bother to risk any damage at all?

Mufflers, no sweat. More? Why bother until you're ready to correct the root issue - lean A/F ratio?

Fine and probably mufflers.

Why add risk with so little to gain?

ETA 2: I think the newer scoots have more tolerant sensors and ECMs but am honestly not sure. You should check into that too though xbohntr. I've been thinking of my '13 but didn't consider the year model you happen to have (don't even know). Yours might be even more sensitive than mine.

With the catalytic converter in the head pipe, I didn't notice much difference in sound even with the right hand muffler removed. I purchased the 2-1-2 head pipe from FuelMoto, the stock mufflers sounded better and the HEAT felt on right leg was diminished noticeably. I also noticed an immediate improvement in fuel mileage.Within 2 months, I then purchased the stage 1 A/C, and dyno tuned 3.5" mufflers along with the PowerVision module. I can't say enough good about FuelMoto' s service. All my questions were answered patiently(!) and quickly. My bike now runs and sounds the way I like it and can easily be tuned for any future mods I may make.
