I'm going to try out a tallboy demo seat on Friday. I was wondering though, does anyone know if the seat pans are the same on the stock ultra seat and the tallboy or reach? Basically, is it just the foam and covers that are different? Because if that's the case I might just have someone like mcc reshape my stocker for less than the cost of a replacement.

Well, the bases are different. I went to try one on and it wouldn't fit because the mount for my backrest was in the way. It looks like the pocket is further back than the stock seat.

That makes me wonder. I know places like mean city cycles say they can move the rider back a couple of inches but does that compromise the placement of a backrest. And is 2" the max because of the shape of the pocket in the base?

I wasn't able to test the seat out because I didn't bring any tools to remove the mount and didn't have time to wait for service to do it (they couldn't lend me a spanner). I'll pull it off and try again tomorrow

Thanks. The MoCo says it's not supposed to sit any lower, just further back. On my way to try it now. We'll see how it goes.

Welp, it was just as you described, Dan. The seating position was pretty much perfect. Not because of any perceived extra coolness but because my feet dropped right to the boards without having to feel for them. Even with the kuryakyn extenders moving the boards up and out an inch my feet tend to reach over the fronts when I sit on the bike with the stock seat.

But the fucking thing was like a board. Felt worse than the street glide seat I sometimes use for short rides when I've stripped off the tour pak! It felt kinda OK initially but I know that I'd be having trouble halfway through a 500+ mile day.

Glad I got to try it out for free though. I think it's about the only seat I'll get to test out that way. I guess I'll have to look into having my stock seat recontoured
