My bike (2009) has been down for well over a month after being hit. I figured while it was in for paint I figured I'd let them install the 12" apes I have. After never bring able to get a straight answer about whether or not the cables and brake line would need to be extended, and then being given a labor only estimate of over a grand just to run wires I took the bars back. Now once I finally get it back, I have to tear it apart again. None to happy about that.
Obviously running the wires internally I'll have to extend them, I've heard about a 1piece throttle by wire cable thats already longer? Did I hear right?
The biggest question is will the existing brake line and clutch cable work or will I need to buy extended ones. I've looked and looked and I've found equal answers going in both directions.
Thanks in advance.

With 12" bars you shouldn't have to extend anything even with going internal. Plenty of people have gone up to 14" with all stock cables and wires and the worst case is that they had to re-route the clutch cable. It is a tedious job but if you have any technical ability at all and some patience you should be fine.

^^^what he said^^^ I put 12.5 bars on my 09 but I extended everything to keep it all in the original locations. Plus I wanted to change to braided brake and clutch cable. It sure looked like I could've used the original if I wanted to.

The technical ability is there...I work as a law enforcement mechanic...spend all day wiring patrol cars. Just without the bike in front of me and the issues since its been down I'm trying to make doing the bars as quick and painless as possible, and I've heard so many different answers.

You should be able to do it in under 4 hours. Could be a lot less if it goes smooth but it almost never does the first time. Aside from running the wires through the bars the worst part is taking apart the plugs and putting them back together. Since you have experience with wiring it may not be that big of a deal to you.

I did 12" Malo bars two weeks ago. All stock cables were fine. Take pictures of the harnesses from a few different angles before you pull the plugs off. I sincerely wish you luck on pulling the wires, it sucks ass. Post up if you run into issues. There is a tutorial on here that is very good, that's what I used.

If you are good a soldiering, just cut the TBW and put extensions in the middle. Slip the shrink tube on, twist the wires together inline, and soldier them together. Not too much just a nice thin coating and pull the shrink wrap over the bare wires after they have cool a bit. Really simple job. You Clutch cabe should reach if you reroute it..

I guess that's where I'm having a big question...from 09 through the newer models (12-13) did they change the length of stock cables and the wiring harness? That was kind of the line the shop that has the bike was feeding me.

Dealer always wants you to buy parts you don't really need then charge to install them.
I just did my 12 RGU putting on 12 inch F47 bars just rerouted clutch cable to behind the engine guard, cut a wire tie on the brake line and rerouted it just barely. then rewire tied it about an inch farther back than the one I cut. I had faring apart putting in daymakers a couple days before bars arrived and glad I did. The owner before me had a dealer install custom gages so I had all that new wiring for the new gages in there plus they left all the old wiring too. So I ordered 10 wire extensions so I did not have to relocate the plugs from the original places. Pulled wires through bars the soldered on extensions threaded wires into fairing and rebuilt plugs.
Took me well over the 4 hours as stated above but was well worth the effort.
If I would have relocated the plugs with out the extensions I doubt I would have ever got the faring back together, but keep in mind that was on a RG Ultra with more wiring to start with + I had the extra wires for the custom gages + CB wiring + amp wiring and the Day makers do take up a little more room than the stock lights.

You don't have to get new cables... Extend the wires for internal, and a 1-piece TBW are needed; trust me after I broke the orig 2-piece, get the 1 piece.

The brake and clutch reach.. I put 13's on my 2009.. NO issues at all!

There should be enough length there with the the stock stuff. I just installed 12" Malo bars on my 13 RG today and used all stock wiring and cables. I had to take one zip tie off on the clutch cable to give it slack, but everything is still in the stock positions. Taking the plugs apart and puttimg them back together was the worst part by far. Take a lot of pics and make a map of the Regis a good tutorial on this site. It was definitely worth the trouble and saved a lot of $$$$.

I'm not sure... I extended mine with the wire kit that I had, then cut out the disconnector and re-soldered the wires... Worked perfectly! I've seen that 1-piece referenced before; however I'm unsure who sells it...

Anyone???
