Who is headed for Sturgis this year.
I hope to hit the last weekend and then head to Deadwood for Shark Week-IX. I'll likely tent camp at the "Rush No More" campground https://www.rushnomore.com . Convenient distance from town with amenities, including "Da Bus" as an option to get into town if I want to drink https://www.sturgisbus.com/.Who is headed for Sturgis this year.
In early 1990s, saw Waylon Jennings Bent Shoe Band at the Broken Spoke in Sturgis.Gone are the days such as the James Gang's reunion in 2006....
The Buffalo Chip may have a good band from time to time, but not worth the cluster-f**k to get in and out. Not willing to pay $9/beer at the Full Throttle at their crappy new location either. The Iron Horse Saloon has a few decent bands during the week.In early 1990s, saw Waylon Jennings Bent Shoe Band at the Broken Spoke in Sturgis.
The biker in the corner that looked a lot like Willie Nelson - really was Willie Nelson.
He did a couple sets with Waylon.
Outlaw Reunion. We all went down Whiskey River.
Chip was always a hellhole. Actually had piss rivers back then. Reminded me of Somalia. The Buffalo Chip may have a good band from time to time, but not worth the cluster-f**k to get in and out. Sounds like a nice place to camp. I agree with you regarding the Buffalo Chip. We stayed there one night in 2006 to hear James Gang. What a miserable, over-hyped campground. People up and making noise all night, and loud bikes leaving early in the morning before dawn. No sleep. We were also downwind from an overfull porta-potty. What a stench! Also, no toilette paper in any of them by mid-week assuming you could stomach using them.Chip was always a hellhole. Actually had piss rivers back then. Reminded me of Somalia.
I camped at a place called Box Elder Creek - not far from Lead and Nemo...
You could whore bath right there in the ice cold stream, put on clean clothes and hit the road.
The stream is so cold, you could hide your beer there.
National Park Service was like $5 a night for veterans back then. Insert envelope in box collection method.
This Great Depression / Civilian Conservation Corps era campsite did not advertise - usually had only 2 or 3 campsites occupied - we tried to keep it a secret. The cover has been blown by the internet.
On my '09 I looped the tie-down around the engine bar inside of where the fairing mounts attached. To be honest, I have not had to trailer my '18 yet, so I don't know if that still works.Planning to be there to race, will be staying at Sturgis Dragway.
Now I have to figure out how to tie the RG down in the race trailer. The fairing and cowbells are making a bit of a challenge where to tie to. The Buells and my old Dyna are easy, lower tree is wide open.
Who is playing iron horse that night?Heading out the early morning of the 2nd, get to the shack south of Lead around noon, off to the Boars nest for lunch, quick run into Deadwood then Cab it to Sturgis for a concert at the IronHorse Saloon that night got a VIP private Cabana so no crowd mess
Ride, eat, gamble head home the afternoon of the 7th to heal up
