Well I, cnidog and Fahred have been discussing sw v. It seems that with shark weeks popularity, we have to plan two years in the making! We have talked to, rode thru and discussed local attractions. We feel like our area has a lot to offer and local establishments want to help too. We obviously need your feedback but were preparing for a full scale proposal during st George.

I know some of you have said that we have nothing but cows and "can watch our dog run away for three days" but we beg to differ! We already have 6 rides(3 long, 3short) plus dinner rides and several hotels including one that has a bar called the "Shark Club".

Omaha has a large zoo with a world class aquarium, 3 Harley dealers, plenty of river valley riding with twisty hills and were only a 1 day ride to sturgis!

Uncle Rat Fink wants you for SHARK WEEK 5!

P.S. let the battle begin ONG

What he said!!! And don't forget our central location - no cross country ride to get here for anybody, except those Alaskans coming across Canada. I'm in and I'm already part of the planning committee.

All this talk about 5, if I ain't mistaken 4 comes before 5 and as far as I know ain't nuthin' been decided where it's gonna be yet. I know Shark Week is a lot of work and each year it may be slightly bigger but not exponentially so. As its been pointed out on here Shark Week this year probably won't be a whole lot bigger then last years. Lead time is important but we ain't exactly talking Sturgis as far as size of an event.

Its been east, middle and west so I think next years is still very much in the air depending on who makes the trip and whats proposed at SW III.

Ill be happy to travel anywhere for a RG rally. Anyone who is willing to host the event has my support !!:D
Thanks mutter! We really appreciate the support and well wishes!

To clear up a couple things, yes we understand that SW IV has not hit yet but were planning for V? We(cnidog, fahred and I) discussed this and we felt that A. northwoods_maine technically has first dibs since shark week rotates coasts, B. No one else has volunteered to host it anywhere else and C. We honestly want to see that area of the country! Now if things come up and he can"t host or decides against it, then we are prepared to pitch Omaha for SW IV instead of V.

Secondly, this isn't "if he can do it, we can too!" type of deal. We've been working on this for awhile now, ONG just decided to draw first blood... so to speak lol

And third... we don't thread-bomb with links to our proposal :D (sorry tim, you know I had to poke ya!)

Anyway, here is a teaser for our area!!

Loess Hills Scenic Byway

Gavins Point Dam

Wells Blue Bunny Tours (that's right, I said ice cream tour!)

Old Market (Hey,we need cobblestones, right hutmo?)

That's just a taste of what we can offer too! Theres lots more to come people. SW III is not less than 2 months away, so lets salivate on all this in the proceeding weeks to come and then let the voting decide.

Assuming the Eureka Springs mention from a few days ago was serious, I'd say we have an official competition........let the bidding begin.

So far we have ice cream being offered from the northerners...........

Next???

Ice cream is a destination. Who rides their Road Glide? Who likes riding straight streets and roads? At Eureka Springs, the greatest riding is right outside your hotel room door, and none of it is straight. In the city of ES, there are no intersections with a 90 degree corner. The riding will leave you breathless. Unless you fear twisties.

And I am neither Northern nor Southern. I am a biker.

None of our rides were offering are neither straight nor flat. Research the links I provided to see the riding we have in mind.

For those curious, the Loess Hills span the height of Iowa. You can't see all it in one ride. That's just one portion of what's in store here.

For those with a Missouri itch, we have plans for the southern end of LH byway into Mo.

How about wanting to see South Dakota, but you don't want to do Sturgis? Bring your rod and reel because we'll take you to Gavins Point Dam.

Shows and shopping? We have plenty! 2 major convention centers, 3 playhouses, music halls, museums and a historic downtown that can you all day to go thru!

Im not here to sugar coat it. I'm presenting real info here. There's those that say were to flat to ride. Its too straight! There is flat straight areas... if that's what your looking for. Let us show you that there's more to us and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Every portion of this country has something to offer someone. Were local and want to welcome you into our home.

BTW I can see why someone might be afraid to come here... since wearing yellow helmets gets confusing amongst all the corn, right?:D

Dude, I rode thru Omaha on my way to Shark Week II. I even have a shirt from a Harley Dealer named after a cow breed. Rode north thru Iowa and South Dakota, stopped in Sioux Falls, then headed north to check off North Dakota and Minnesota on the map. I hardly ever turned off the Cruise Control the entire time. Truth be told, it was SOOOO hot in Omaha (102 and HUMID!) I left as quickly as I could. But, you are right, about all I saw until I hit northern South Dakota was Corn. Billions upon billions of stalks of Corn as far as the eye could see.

We all have our likes and dislikes. Le Claire wasnt exactly filled with an island breeze, but we all still had a blast right? I've been to ES in the summer plenty of times. Table Rock Lake provides plenty of humidity plus all the little rivers/creeks don't help. Its all relative, we go for the people and experience not the weather. If the latter were true, no one would be going to St George in summer.

Each group who plans to make a bid should do so on the merits of their area and their plan ... not by bad mouthing another proposed location. Isn't that how we differentiate this site from the others?

Which is why I said to hell with it. I recalled why I keep telling myself never volunteer for anything. Got totally burned last time I did that.

No matter where anyone proposes to host a SW, some portion of the membership here will find fault with it. That's just natural. For example I would rank Maine and New Hampshire in the top 5 places in the country for the best riding roads and views, but we've had our share of push back about hosting SW4 here. It's too far north; it's too far east; nothing to see but trees; etc. If you truely want to do all the work involved in planning an SW and putting together a bid, then do it. Don't be distracted by nay- sayers. Some say it's all about the riding, while others say it's all about getting together with other RG.org riders. There are enough great destinations in this country that I would hope that we could enjoy locations that offer great rides AND great comraderie with our Shark riding friends. Plan on!
