Ok Folks you're coming this far and you're going to see some spectacular scenery. Hopefully there will be some wildlife spotting, bears, elk, rocky mountain sheep and maybe even some mountain goats. For many of you coming this far may be a once in a lifetime trip, you really should take the opportunity to walk on top of thousands of years of ice on a glacier and then experience it from hundreds of feet up in the air on a glass sidewalk cantilevered over the edge of a cliff.

Brewster Tours has been operating in Banff and Jasper national parks almost since the park were founded. Brewster operates all these venues and I have negotiated combination pricing on multiple attractions. The 3rd is world famous Banff Gondola tour which I can guide you to visit on Friday for those who are interested in going, its a fantastic ride up to the top of Sulphur Mountain with a spectacular view in 4 directions, it really is breathtaking for those sticking around longer and can fit it in their schedule.

The Icefield and Skywalk tours will take place on Weds and Thurs, we ride in any weather except for snow. I would like to take roughly half of the full group each day. This means about 80 people each of the two days. The Tundra Buggies hold 56 people each so we will fill roughy 1.5 buggies, don't worry, the rest will fill up.

The trek to the visitor center is roughly 3 hours from the host hotel. The road from Lake Louise up to the visitor center is two lane, 55mph limit with tourists.

Each days ride up to the Icefields will split into 3 groups. The first group will be KSU at 07:15 (five gallon gas tank bikes, preferably), the second group at 07:30, the third group at 07:45. There will be a pitstop at Sask River Crossing for fuel and another near the top of Sunwapta Pass for a photo op of the valley below (safest to do on the way up, right hand exit, unsafe to do on the way back, cross traffic on a curve).

We will be parking in the bus parking at the Icefield visitor center to keep all the bikes together for security and safety reasons. The ride up to and back from the Tundra Buggies will be on motorcoaches, no exceptions. Same with the ride to the hike to the Skywalk, motorcoaches to and from.

When the Skywalk Excursion is complete, the motorcoaches will deliver us back to the visitor center and we will depart for the return trip back down the valley to Lake Louise. Again we will try to stage out of the parking lot for the return trip. There will be a couple of photo ops on this return trip because the exits are on the right hand side. A fuel stop in Lake Louise and then ride directly back to the host hotel for the banquet and presentations on Wednesday and raffle/door prize/ SW VII announcement on Thursday.

You will need to sign up and pay for these attractions in advance. We are asking you to take a few steps to make sure that you don't miss your chance to experience Canada's magnificent and unique beauty. If you are RG.org forum savvy or if you have a teenager at home, the Quickstart instructions below will get you off and running. If you are like most of us and are more into riding and Road Glides, then you'll probably want to skip down to the "Technically Challenged" instructions.

Quickstart Version:
1) PM or FB message Dreamrider (Peter) to get you access to the online glacier excursion signup form (different from the Shark Week signup form)
2) sign up on the signup form here
3) pay for your tickets here

Technically Challenged Version:
First Step - To access the google docs signup sheet, which is similar to the Shark Week signup sheet that hopefully you've all completed either PM Dreamrider (Peter) on the forum or you can email him at [email protected] and you'll receive an invite from Peter to proceed with your signup. Those of you on Facebook can also message him to complete this step.

Second Step - Use the signup sheet at this link to reserve your spot and let us know if you prefer to take the Wednesday trip or the Thursday trip. On that sheet you will also find a link to the ticket order form where you will pay for your tickets (sorry, but we need the payments in advance to ensure space on the buggies). Bringing up the link is a bit cumbersome due to the nuances of google docs, but follow the instructions on the spreadsheet, i.e. hover your mouse over the cell to bring up the link, and you'll be taken to the ticket order site. Or if this is too complicated (and at this point that's a distinct possibility), simply go to step 2:

Third Step - Pay for your ticket(s) at this link, once again indicate whether you prefer to go on Wednesday or Thursday, and then pay via the PayPal link.

If you have any questions, please PM @calgaryglide, @DreamRider, or @Stray Mutt.

let the count down begin

This will be an amazing adventure and experience! When will we know the costs for the attractions by Brewster Tours? I haven't been in the rockies since 1984. Have they changed much? I appreciate all the hard work and dedication hosting sharkweek must take. Thanks Calgaryglide for putting together an awesome itinerary. Let the countdown begin.

Excursion Cost

Okay folks we have the pricing.

The Glacier Adventure includes both the tour out onto the top of Athabasca Glacier and the Skywalk adventure out onto the glass promenade 900ft above the valley floor.

Pricing is 79.35/person Canadian. There will be a link to a sign up sheet and you will be able to paypal your ticket money at the start of June. Peter will send out a Google Doc sign-up Sheet and and Ron will track Paypal reservations for the activities.

We will take approximately 80 people/day on the Wednesday and the Thursday. This will be an all day event traveling up there early in the morning, doing the excursion and hitting a few photo ops on the way back to the hotel.

There will also be a bag lunch signup sheet for each day for the excursion. The host hotel will provide the bag lunch at 15.87 and it can be added to your room bill. Water and soda will be provided by the SW VI organizing committee. For those not staying at the host hotel, please contact me, you can purchase your bag lunch from the host hotel or seek out your own in Canmore (more selection). There is a cafeteria at the excursion site, the lineups are long and they move at a glacial pace (pun intended). The food is expensive and frankly not that great. The bag lunches will save us all some bucks and help the drovers keep the herd together.

When considering when to fit all these extra curricular activities into the already packed schedule there is just not enough time to do an organized ride into Banff for the Gondola Excursion. I encourage folks to still do this in smaller groups if they would like in a self-guided format. I am still willing to take whoever wants to go on the morning of Friday Aug 5 if any folks are sticking around for the day or a couple more.

The walk up rate for the Banff Gondola is 42.95$ Canadian. Group rates start at 15 or more people. No advanced sign-up sheets for this.

I know that most of you will have put in some long days in the saddle to get here and most will really just want to relax and re-connect with your fellow shark brothers and sisters on the Monday evening, our lounge area in the showroom will be open for relaxing and swapping stories.

So I'm a bit confused as to what to do. I want to ride while there, but I also want to go on a tour. What are the "must-do's" that I should plan for?
Well Desertwndrr, the tour planned is a three hour ride up and back through some amazing mountain passes with stops along the way for photo ops. While it is a day to see the glaciers by actually walking on them then a chance to test your nerve at the skywalk there is still a couple days to tour the other parts of mountains and Banff.

Lots of great riding and site seeing ....and wildlife.
Cheers

I think he is just bragging there. You should have seen him when, on the way back from Texas, we stopped for the night in a DRY COUNTY! No Beer!!! :crying: :frown:

Dude went into total withdrawal. Good thing I was able to scrounge a few from a Construction Crew that was staying at the hotel. >:) They sent a runner over to the next county on a beer run every evening. Kept him alive long enough to make it back to Canada the next day.

The link above will take you to the itinerary for the 3 days. This itinerary will hit the highlights of Banff, Jasper, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks as the rides will either pass thru or go into all 4 of these parks. We will also be in Kananaskis and Peter Lougheed provincial parks as well.

As usual there will be some tweaking of the itinerary but it is probably 98% set right now. My advice, find Chuck's group and follow him.

If it is Rock and has snow on it in August you will see it.

"We don't ride buses, we ride Harleys" My answer to the tour operators when asked how many buses we would need.

OK folks, Mutt here on behalf of Troy with "how-to's" regarding signup sheets and payments and such for the Glacier/Skywalk Excursion Harley riders who claim not to be bus riders. :p

Full instructions are on Troy's Original Post on this thread. You'll need to sign up on the online google docs sheet, which is similar to the overall SW signup sheet, then you'll need to pay for your tickets separately. Links for the different forms are below. You'll also need to contact @DreamRider (Peter) in order to get access to the google docs spreadsheet....OK, it turns out this step is not necessary. When you click on the link below it is automatically editable, so fill in your name, desired day, and click on the link to the ticket site to submit your payment.

Google docs Glacier Excursion signup sheet: signup

Ticket Purchase sheet: tickets

Note: each of these forms have links to each other's sheet.
