As with every other poster here I'm planning on a sound upgrade but am only wanting to upgrade the speakers and amps on my '13 FLTRU. I like tghe CB and intercom on long rides so I'm keeping the HK head unit. My questions are...

1. Since the HK hu is a 2 ohm output to all four channels(speakers) is it better to install 2x2 ohm amps and upgrade the speakers? (i'm seriously considering the RF 300x2 and infinity kappa 62.11i in the fairing and on the TP.) Or will using a 4 ohm amp and speakers matter with the 2 ohm HU?

2. Since I'm keeping the original HU I assume I can just wire the amp inline from the HU outputs to the amp inputs and the amp outputs to the speakers using the original wiring harnesses. is this correct?

You can cut and wire the high output lines from the front speakers to the amp. Then run wire from your amp to speakers. I just finished doing this last weekend with a soundstream amp and kappas and the difference is amazing.

1. If you want to go with the front and rear kappas and two of the 300x2 amps that would work very well with the stock HU. The 300x2 likes high level inputs from the speakers. As far as I'm concerned those kappas paired with the 300x2 is one of the best bang for the buck combos available and you'd really like it. I had another name brand of 2 ohm speakers from a sponsor here before upgrading - the kappas blew them away for way less than 1/2 the price. You could go with a 4 ohm amp and 4 ohm speakers with the stock HU and be fine as well. If you went that route, you may want to consider having iron cross do RCA pre-outs for a cleaner signal to start with, but it's optional. If you do go for a 4-channel 4ohm amp, look somewhere other than the pbr 300x4.

2. Correct, you can go from the HU outs to the amp inputs and then from amp out to speakers. Again, the pbr 300x2 likes high level inputs, no value in converting to RCA for that amp. If you go with a different amp, converting to RCA outs may be worth it (not mandatory, but maybe slightly better performance).
