have a 2009 Ultra classic and had a PC V on it with dyno and all Was good. Bike quit running and had to take PC V off. It was dead. Less than3 years old. I have seen a lot of talk about Thundermax tuners but am wondering if they are as good as they say? Put them on and put a close tune to it and then ride and it auto tunes your bike. 1st,, is it that simple and does it do a good job? I don't wamt to spend that much money and not do what I want. 2nd ... if they are that good, where is best Place to buy one at best price? Thanks for listening and for any help.

I had a Thundermax with autotune on my 01 RK with a major engine build and it worked great. Thundermax tuner is the first thing I did on my 13 RGC. It works great. I did the exhaust and breather on the first round. Loaded a map and let autotune do its work. Then I added cams. Loaded another map and let autotune work. It is easy to install and manage.

You will get a lot of comments about not getting the most out of your engine unless you get the bike dyno tuned. That may be true, but the reason I got the TMax with autotune was so that I could make changes and not have to worry about a dyno tune every time. And it works.

I bought mine from Frank Drago at Dragos Bike Works. He is a forum sponsor and gives members a discount. Give him a call. You won't be disappointed. Good luck. www.dragosbikeworks.com.

Hell NO. Everybody has there opinion as do I. I wasted 8 bills on a tmax. Nothing beats a DYNO tuned bike. Talk to a LOCAL tuner and ask his advice. do it once and do it right.

I went through a few tuners PV,tmax and TTS to get the results I wanted. I found a local tuner and asked his advice and now my bike flat out runs awesome.

Tmax doesn't use any knock control like the stock pcm. no safe guards.

First of all any auto tuner will only AUTO TUNE THE AFR. There is no auto tuner on the market that auto tunes the timing.
If you get a T-max you have to load a base map that is close to your build and then ride the bike and let the auto tune tune the AFR then if there is any pinging you have to make the timing adjustments which is easy to do.
I run a T-max and I made all my timing adjustments and the bike runs great.
The T-max is a good tuner to have if you plan on doing engine mods later on or want to change from one mod to another mod because you don't need to have the bike dyno tuned.
Most people that don't like the T-max tuner don't take the time to learn how to or take the time to make the adjustments in timing or they take their bike to a dyno tech that is not familiar with the T-max tuner and they end up with less then satisfactory results.
DO NOT expect to just load a base map and not make any timing adjustments (unless you get lucky) , you may need to make multiple timing adjustments to get everything right.
Taking your bike to have a dyno tune can be expensive and in many cases result in disappointing results because the dyno tech doesn't know what he is doing.

I agree with Ironmark, and as far as the best price, I agree withTsmartt, BTW I'm on my 2nd bike with the TMax and am very happy with it.

I also agree with Ironmark. Nothing is perfect out of the box, but if you spend a little time, the Thundermax will do its job. I purchased mine from Jamie at FuelMoto. He had the model I needed in stock at the time I was looking. If you buy it from either Jamie or Frank, they will set you up with a base map that is very close. Would I buy one again for a new bike? Hell yes.

My dyno tune with the TTS was 817.00 out the door. That included the TTS and tune. The tmax was 800.00 The tuner pulled a extra 20hp and 23tq over the tmax.

I agree about tuning the timing on the tmax so when you think about it the tmax costs more than the actual tts and a tune. Add another 400.00 to the top of the tmax= 1200.00.

I have to admit the Thundermax is the only tuner I have ever had, never put one on my
Wide Glide yet. But with that said I don't have any reason to want anything else.I put it on
the same time I put the MGS exhaust on and haven't looked back. Have had 0 problems with it.

Ran two thundermxx for nine years!! Zero problems first one was a zippers 120 with DD boarzilla second was fuel moto 107 with DD fat cat 777 woods cams...both bikes were flawless and only dyno tuned for purposes of seeing what it would make.. Drove the bikes from Sturgis to Miami beach and everywhere in between...I can not speak for others but it just works for me!! highly recommend !! my new build is from Frank Drago 107 diablo 2.5 kit with his pipe and thundermaxx waiting on parts now!! Frank gives thundrmaxx a full thumbs up!

I can tell you good and bad about every tuner for an HD bike.
I tell my customers buy the one your tuner is more comfortable with.
Because at the end of the day if they dont know how to use the EFI system your bike can run like crap.
I am trained on PC5-PV-SE-TTS-Tmax we don't turn them away. Some guys will not touch all these systems. If you have any questions I will be more than happy to help.:D
Thanks FD

I purchased a Thundermax with map included along with new pipes from Frank a couple months ago. So far I'm really pleased with the ability to make adjustments myself. Bike has never idled so good, more power, and now I'm working on getting much better fuel milage at cruise. One could plug-and-play, but to get the most out of this tuner, running auto tune and making specific adjustments to AFR, timing, idle speed, etc. helps. Plenty of videos on-line to help.

I have the 120R with D&D Boarzilla exhaust. I had my T-Max dialed in by Zippers down @ Del-Marva bike week, and my bike runs so much smooooooother. Maybe my bike could run a little better with a dyno, but I'm totally ok with the T-Max. I like to spend my time riding and not worrying about dyno numbers and exact HP. My bike easily gets up 130mph and beyond. Trust me... that's just about as fast as I want to go on a Barcolounger.
Bottom line: It's all up to the individual.....

For diagnostic reasons (problem on the road away from home) I don't really care for the T-Max (who's going to diagnose it?). The PC-V is simple in that respect (remove the PC-V, if the bike runs then you have your culprit).

The Harley ECM probably has one of the lowest failure rates of any major component in the Twin Cam drivetrain, I see no great benefit to replace it (maybe on a forced induction motor???) There are plenty of other options out there...

Does the T-Max support the Ion Sensing? 'Don't know if it does or not, but I kinda like the IS.

JMHO...

I second that, don't waste your money, stock ECM is far superior then any aftermarket unit.Find a local tuner and always keep a copy of your MAP on a thumb drive in your bike.Any Harley davidson dealer will be able to upload your MAP in the event you have to ever replace your ECM.

thundermax

been running a tmax for about 3 years.. I had them install it when they were here for bike week, as soon as I hit the highway leave, under a load it would detonate or ping....I have taken it back to them 3 times and it has always done it to this day. I always run Shell brand, 92 or 93 octane.
The only way it doesn't ping is if I run racing fuel, and at 10$/gal who can afford that...
Driving it easy and not lugging it is the only other way I keep it from pinging, so I manage to ride "around it"..but its still really annoying, especially for what I paid

FYI. I have thundermax, D&D fatcatt and stage one aircleaner, all installed by thundermax

My experience was
1) If you have a build that i close to a base map, then great
2) If you have a Build that incorperates cams that arent on the list, your in for a long season
3) You have to ride in a REV range to tune the AFR. So getting the top hole power at 58-6500 RPM eans you have to keep those reves for several minutes to allow the adjustment.
4) As stated the timing is not auto. Beprepaired to fiddel f#ck with it to dial that in

I moved from a Dyno tuned 113 with RS577 Running 118/110 to the same engine with a thunder max And T-Man 590. The best it ran with that combo was 102/99. I have a SS124 lc now. I was able to blend some maps together for a real soft break in. Ive remapped it with another combo map and it pulls Better than my 113 ever did, but itll be the Dyno that tells te story. Im leaning on selling it as I truly believe that for mild cam work and exhaust, they are very workable, but for any real preformance they take alot of time, energy, reseach, and forum browsing to dial them in. If it doesnt put out 125/125 ill be going to something else.
