Hi all,
I've got a rattle that I can't figure out, my Softail doesn't make this noise and it only comes on when I throttle up. Everything sounds fine at idle or just cruising along but comes on as soon as I give it any throttle.

I don't know if this is the infamous rocker tick or what, but I've never experienced this on any other Harley. I'm hoping someone is able to help identify it before I go to the dealer. She's a 16 RGS with a 113in stage 4.
Any help will be appreciated.

Kind of sounded like a possible exhaust leak but hard telling from that clip...I’ll agree that it doesn’t sound normal

Could be a lot of things. I have experienced similar sounds that only become audible at certain rpms and they’ve been things loose on the bike. One was a heat shield that even though felt tight it didn’t like a vibration caused by a certain rpm and it would rattle fir just a few hundred rpm.
Tough to say from a video clip. If you’re mechanically inclined I’d start checking things like heat shields for evidence of rubbing before letting anyone start tearing into the motor. Good luck to you. Let us know what you find.

Thanks guys,
I've been looking for something loose that would be causing it but haven't found it yet. I'm putting her up on the jack tomorrow to do a better search front to back. If I find it I'll post it.

check your exhaust heat shield at the RH, floor board when you accelerate your engine will shift on the mounts and could be making contact there. also check to make sure the air breather cover is not making contact with the fuel tank if it has been modified.

Good possibility that it's just throttle body noise. Throttle body will make noise that kind of sounds like a bad lifter. Doing engine upgrades and air filter upgrades will allow more noise to come out of the throttle body and it is nothing to worry about.

Hard to tell but the same sound I had when accelerating, I had assumed it was an exhaust leak so to rectify it I bought a whole new exhaust, the sound is now gone. I figured if was going to have to pull the header and change the gasket might as well replace the whole thing, it was cheaper this way I didn't have to buy new gaskets they were included with the new exhaust.
