My wife and I are heading to Orlando/Kissimmee next week for a week of riding. I want to explore back roads for the most part. Can some of you that live there or frequent that area clue me in to some interesting roads and sights that are a "must see"? Note: we can go pretty much anywhere in FL for that matter, it doesn't have to be limited to the Orlando/Kissimmee area. We will just be based out of there.
We do plan to go to Leesburg at least one day and hopefully one of those will be for the meet and greet.

Thanks,

David

There's a little place just southwest of Orlando...it's kinda hard to miss....and I'm fergettin' the name right now....great rides......begins with a D.....oh yeah....Disney World!
HA HA HA !!!!!
Sorry, just couldn't help myself!!!

To make up for it, I'll tell ya about the 120 Loop, since you said it's possible to go anywhere, head to Daytona from any direction, BACKROADS ONLY, and when you see water, TURN LEFT!!! Trust me salt water don't do yer bike any good!

Keep the Atlantic on your right (head north) for 16 miles to High Falls Bridge road and go LEFT....remember YOUR Shark DON'T SWIM!!!:D

PM me your email and I'll send you a Google map. If you have GPS, you can upload that map to your unit

There are lots of good rides, but more TRAFFIC now-a-days around Central Florida, in general, try to head for the beaches or for any inland water like the St. Johns if you want to see what's left of the indigenous wild life.

And BEWARE BLUE HAIR AND KNUCKLES!!!!!

A nice ride is to head east, out of Orlando (what road depends on where you are staying) until you get to highway 1. Head north all the way into St Augustine. Approx. 160 miles and follows the coast line almost the whole way up. you will see a lot of bikes and little places to stop. Once in St Augustine I suggest eating at The Conch House. Here is the site - http://www.conch-house.com/restaurant.html You can sit in those "tree houses" overlooking the marina.

Heading back to Orlando - Go through the Ocala National forest. take 207 down to highway 19. Highway 19 south all the way through the national forest and then pick your own route into Orlando.

Here is a photo I took of the Conch House last month. If you go there be sure to walk out on the pier. You can generally see guys cleaning the days catch and the pelicans begging for scraps. They get kind of feisty

Are you a Vet? If so, I'll PM you some info on the 26th Annual VN and All Vets Reunion down this way (APR 21 to APR 28), largest Vet reunion in the SE and we can meet up there.

Regardless about that though, here's an idea... and if this didn't copy'n'paste correctly for a forum post, then PM me with an email address and I'll send that way.

I started you off in St. Cloud (just East of Kissimmee). The route includes a couple of cool stops for "refreshments". You'll see a TON of things that are good photo ops (including Kennedy Space Center) plus the ride down the coast is full of more (a LOT more) convienient stops along the way.

Better idea

I got a better idea. Skip the complete mess that is Orlando in general and spend your trip in the Smoky Mountains of Eastern Tenn and Western N.C. Closer, less traffic and some of the best roads anywhere.... the only curves you will see in Florida will be when you turn a corner....

Search for Mont Verde, Ferndale, and Sugarloaf Mountain. Good curvy roads around there. The Tomoka Loop in Daytona is good. And of course, a ride along the coast is always nice. I like the idea of going north along the coast and back through Ocala National.

Thanks for the ride info. I am not a vet, so that part won't work. But I got the info on the ride, so we will give that a go.

Thanks again,

David
