That is the question.

I've grown increasingly tired of my BLACK rg. To the point where I was actually looking at the 2014 Batwings :(

I've decided that I have my bike setup almost how I want it and its almost paid for so I have no desire for a new one.

I cant decide if its worth it to have a custom paint job done (quoted 2500 for PPG paint) without having added all the other custom stuff.... wheels, bags, tanks ect...

So my questions is... is a new paint job (more of a color switch) going to look ok with stock tank, bags and wheels?

Thanks in advance for your opinions...

Your first sentences says that I am tired of the black and was looking at the Batwings. So are you tired of the color Black or are you tired of the RG. You have to be honest with yourself. A color of a bike can always be changed but if you want to change up to a Bat Wing that is also fine. A new custom paint job, bags and new gas tank isn't going to cost you as much as a new Bat Wing, but If you like the new Bat Wing go for it. You don't have to justify to anyone why you switch to another bike as long as you are happy with the decision that is all that matters. As my father told me once there is a point in your life when you say to yourself who gives a crap what other people think. What would be interesting if you did buy a Bat Wing what color it would be.

New Paint Scheme

Wanna buy some Sedona Orange tins, Rootbeer maybe, Crimson Red Sunglow maybe.

I can sell you a different color piece for just about every part?

How about
-Sedona Orange rear fender,
-mirage orange front fender,
-chopper blue outer fairing,
-Rootbeer fuel tank,
-red tour pak bottom with mirage orange lid,
-saddle bag lids in red, white with chrome trim or rootbeer
-saddle bag bottoms in red, white, sedona orange or black/grey
-you keep a black side cover whichever side you choose and i'll find the other side in Big Blue Pearl.
-2500.00 for the whole set outright or trade straight across.
-If you want mismatched lowers that will be an extra 500.00, I can offer an HD left or right in mirage orange your choice of side and red, rootbeer or denim black in a hogg chopp for the other side.

You'll never ever lose your bike at Sturgis, Laconia or SW for that matter.

Troy:D

On the serious side. If you're not happy with the color but have everything else the way you want, paint it the color you want, be happy. There are some pretty cool colors and some very creative paint artists out there. Quality costs and takes time.

I prefer to stick with 1 color and accent with stripes or other trim, but that is my taste not yours:cool:

You asked for;
Good paint job with few detail lines to accent the sexy RG lines. CVO style bags.
Set of contrast cut wheels 21" front.
Off the topic a cam upgrade will top it off.
Will be like new bike. :D
Personally don't care of the 2014 changes.
Will do total build off when get about 65K on mine. Planning on retirement with this bike. If can handle the weight a trike conversion will take place.
But is your bike anything that make you happy go for.

The number one thing that 99% of the general public and probably 90% of the bike knowledgeable community zero right in on is the paint job and the paint job only. (Entirely my made up stats, BTW). Give it a little pizazz, something different (a subtle Steelers logo, for example - OK, probably not the best suggestion for a Cleveland guy), but something like accents or unique graphics that sets the bike apart from the sea of similarly decorated Roadies would be great. Do that and nobody will care about the other things. If you simply want to change the color to another solid color, then you might as well do something with wheels, bags, etc. Or if your funds limit you to a single color job, go with something really different like maybe......lime green?....errr, I mean cobalt blue. Bottom line, no, don't worry at all about the extras.

I have to agree with stray mutt here. A couple Steelers logos on that thing would set it off nicely ;)

Paint it. Make it yours. I love red and I bought a silver bike. As time progressed I found a gas tank, rear fender, and bags in my color off a 09 Streetglide. I then had the rest of the bike painted to match. I wouldn't have any other color. I figure my son will inherit my RGU but it will still scream my tastes. I had graphics added to the fairing, front fender, and lowers. I'm still not sold on them but they will change when I get ready.

All the things you have done to your bike to make it your own will mean nothing at trade in and you would have to start over again with a higher payment. And you may get tired of that color also. JMO:D

Jeeezzzz Dan! I thought the green on black was pretty killer! But hey, I don't look at it every day. My opinion...I would change color without doing all the other body work... I mean it's a rider ,not a show bike. Don't have to be radical to be cool looking. Dude on the saddle does that!!! Wouldn't mind a color change myself..if I could ever decide what I really want. Everytime I think I have decided, I see something else and then CRAP.....back to square one again! So I focus more on the riding and destinations...and less on the paint. Good luck buddy, whatever you decide....It'll rock!!

I understand exactly how you feel. I went with some custom parts first and had them painted black, still not happy with the color. I do like black but wanted something different. I just had my bike painted, (picking up the rest of the pieces tomorrow), so far I'm very happy, looks new and doesn't look like everyone else. I'll be posting pics soon, maybe it'll influence you.

I love the Merlot Sunglo on my RGU, but with I could do something about the stripes. It hasn't reached the point where I want to repaint it yet, but I have seen some colors that sparked my interest. Like you, I bought it because I loved it the way that it was, and haven't done a lot in the way of mods. That may change one day, but that's the beauty of it. Like everyone here alluded to... make it yours! I have a buddy who does some incredible paint jobs in Phoenix who is trying to talk me into a burnt orange/copper color. Maybe one day...

Best of luck with the decision. I know it isn't easy...

Great replies thank you everyone. (I know how you assholes love to spend other peoples $$ LOL ).

@DB can't wait to see it!

One of the colors I'm strongly considering is PPG "Oh So Orange" w/ a heavy dose of Pearl.

I absolutely fell in love with the different oranges that HD released and my all time favorite is the Orange silver SE RG 09 I think.... So I think I'm an orange kinda guy!

Like I said earlier...my biggest concern is how the custom paint job will look with stock bags / tank / fenders.

If you are content with HD stock colors you could always keep an eye on EBay for someone selling a complete set in a color you like. You might also find complete CVO sets on there. Then you could sell yours and recoup some money.

Good point...and I did think about that... but I thought I would end up painting the lowers and TP still.

This is a pic of a Van that was at my painters shop... hence the reason I started thinking!!

Like I said its PPG "Oh So Orange" with a ton of Pearl. It looks metalic orange straight on then goes to light orange to green as you increase your viewing angle.

The first pic is almost straight on... the second is at a angle and the last one is a more extreme angle. (hard to explain).

Although I love a black bike it is a lot of work to keep them looking good. I would ask the question, is it really you are tired of the color or are you at a place you want a new bike? If it's a new bike you really want, painting will make it look new but at the end of the day unless you do a complete make over from paint, stereo, wheels, motor and exhaust once the new paint wears off being new you will be back wishing you moved on to a new bike. I think the new limited is badass but because I don't like having the batwing fairing so close to me, I personally couldn't get one. Search your heart for what it is you really want and then go for it...we will all cheer you on....as you said, everyone here loves to help spend someone else's money!
