Well the wife and I decided that we need to put miles on this bike and use a touring bike for what they were designed to do. I had a road glide before and put over 20k on it In 2 years but it was mostly me commuting to work and little day trips here and there in the state. So we booked a room for a few days the week of memorial day (same time as my birthday and our anniversary) in Galveston as neither of us have been and figured why not go somewhere new. It's not a huge trip just 4.5 hours from where we live in central Louisiana but a good start. Also plan on riding up to the dallas area and see a lot of my family that stay there. Actually looking forward to getting away for a bit. I manage a warehouse and my wife is a pre k teacher so when we get a chance to turn phones off and relax theres no better feeling.

cool. the wife and I like to head over there as well (from sw la here). my job allows me to do it during the week. hotel prices are usually reasonable. on the weekends they go up substantially. we would stay at the red roof inn on seawall blvd. they've been sold, and are now something else, though last time I checked, the rate was still less than $50 during the week. almost triple on the weekend.

one of our 'must do' things is to go to the stuttgarden tavern on the strand. they have a ton of craft beers on tap, and some good 'bangers and mash' (aka sausage and mashed potatoes with cabbage).

we would take the bus from the red roof over there so no worries about dui....

Enjoy your getaway. The strand has a lot of shopping and looking around. I've not done this personally and don't know exactly what days they do this, probably on the weekend only but Hotel Galvez has a killer brunch buffet from what I've heard. My buddy lives in Galveston and goes often on the weekends.

Thanks guys, we are going there on a Monday to get a little cheaper rate. Her last day of teaching for the year is the week before so it's a good kick off. We are staying at the Baymont for not a bad price. We are looking most forward to the food on our trips. Then a little with the sight seeing.

some of my most memorable trips have been on the bike with the wifee. it's a two-fer lol

sturgis, laconia, daytona, springfield mile or just down the street to a great restaurant. 'sall good!

medical problems keep her from riding these days so i can go as fast as i want.

enjoy your time together on the bike before life gets in the way...

galveston is a great place, while there be sure and ride out west on seawall blvd only couple miles to 'woodys' best bike bar on the island. weekends it's crazy. used to be in downtown but landlord run them off the property, so the owner took the entire building and moved it a few miles down the bch and put it on stilts. also if you want a nice day ride head on west past woodys for about 30mi. down what is the 'blue water highway' great coast ride. ends at surfside beach where there are lots of bars and resturants with great seafood. https://www.skyscanner.com/trip/galveston-tx/things-to-do/woodys-beach-bar
