I have a 2017 RGS. Recently, I purchased a pair of Custom Dynamics Bullet driving lights. I thought I wanted to have an on/off switch, so I wouldn’t be running the lights all the time. I purchased the correct wire harness from Harley which provided two switched circuits. Part of the install for the harness included added a fused wire from the positive battery terminal to the P&A accessory outlet in the right caddy.

I wired the lights, and lifted the end of the gas tank closest to the rider a bit to run wire to the area under the seat. The lights work, but now I am getting trouble code B2206. This code is a high short in the run/stop switch. The motorcycle runs fine, the run/stop switch works fine, and if you didn’t look at the trouble codes, I don’t think you would know that the bike is throwing the code. I am not sure what I would have done to cause this short. It seems that this switch connects to some harness behind the headlamp. I cannot find anything on the internet about how to troubleshoot this problem.

Caveats: I have been given inconsistent information from 3 dealers in my area as to whether the BCM needs to be flashed. Could an BCM that has not been flashed after the new circuit was added causes the DTC code?

Secondly, I was told that this setup is illegal, as the light has to turn off when the brights are used. These dealerships also told me that you cannot have it setup on switch and to turn off with the bright lights, its one or the other. I find this hard to believe, because my car fog lights operate in that manner. Any ideas of how to wire it, so I can control them with the switch and have them cut off with the high beams.

I appreciate anyones input.

Sincerely

Doug

I know when I installed my LED bullet turn signals for my 2018 Fat Bob I had to run the hazards for several cycles so the BCM could learn the new LEDs Then everything worked fine and no codes came up.

Also, I have been told that it is illegal in most states if not all, to run driving lights with the high beams on but I have yet to know of anyone that has been given a ticket or even been pulled over for it. It's most likely one of those things that they can tack on if you get pulled for something else and you're being a jerk to the cop. Ultra Classics and other bike come from the factory wired to turn off the driving lamps when you switch to high beams. Oddly enough, HD sell a harness that you can install to use the driving lamps with high beams.
