I have 2018 RG AND it has all the California exhaust stuff on it. ( I live in Nevada)
Will a V&H fuel pack do me any good?
Can I change headers and still use the exhaust O2 sensors for the ecm?


(can not edit main word. Tuer?? haha, tuner.......

I can't answer your question but I will say give V&H tech a call. They do have good customer service and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help if you tell them you are interested in their product. I had their old fuel pak on my bike and it went bad. I sent it back to them and in a week I had a brand new one in my mailbox. I just replaced that one with their new FP3.

Gutting the cat doesn't do as much on the M8 as it did on the 103. It does help a little with the heat, but probably not as much as you want it to. It damn sure doesn't help with the sound. I'm running a de-catted pipe, FP3, and chopped baffles in V&H slip ons. Runs like a raped ape. But it's the worst sounding Harley I ever had. It's loud, but not "good " loud.

Hi pauld; there are several experts on this forum, I'm not but I know a thing or two.

First off, don't gut the "catted" headers, I would rather craiglist 'em back to "Kali". They might come in handy if the DMW wants a closer look when riding with a closed circuit competition exhaust system...
(BTW Here in Europe headers with a catalytic converter cost a fortune so it's better to make some money on them.)

Yes, you can get an afternarket system that fits the M8 02- bungs with a 12mm insert.

The V&H Fuelpak is very nice with its wireless - bluetooth connection. But I would reccomend a dynotune with the Fuelpak to get optimum performance. The ECM needs a recalibration since the factory tune is very lean. Contrary to what some argue, a richer air/fuel mix gives better overall performance.

If you are looking for some serious perfomance how about a 2:1-system like V&H Propipe or D&Ds Billet Cat? JMO

Are you planning on purchasing a new header pipe?

Being that you live in NV. I would get rid of the stock header , or gut the stock header, and I would purchase the V&H FP-3.

Like already stated, call V&H tech support.

I did email V&H and they said, yes the FP3 will improve performance on the stock set up. BUt I thought, well, maybe. After all they are trying to sell a product. This is no way means their FP3 is a so so product. from everything I have seen and read it is a Great thing.
As far as the "cat" goes, my recent research suggest that removing it will not help performance all that much. And, the cat is meant to burn off excess gas before it is exhausted into the air. Therefore, a richer bike with the cat, may mean a hotter cat.
With all of this said, does anyone know where I can find specs about the M8 that show amount of air the engine can take in, while in stock mode?

The recommendation of the dyno tune is the best advice your going to get. However, I haven't seen any tuners that use the fuelpack. Top 3 in that area are TTS, Powervision, Thundermax.
Listen to some M8s and pick the sound you like and go that route, then get it tuned by a reputable tuner. Done! Then ride the hell out of it

Very good question

I just purchased a 2018 RGS and am having the dealer install a V&H Pro pipe and heavy breather. I asked about doing the V&H Tuner or the Harley Auto-Tune and the service techs said I would basically be waisting my money at this point. They said the M8 engine is just a phenomenal motor and what used to be "performance" upgrades to the older 96 and 103 motors just don't have the same affect on the M8 engine. He said go for aesthetic and sound, because a heavy breather and exhaust aren't going to add the performance they once used to in the older motors.

He further added that if I am doing cams or something else to up the performance, an auto-tune would start to come in handy OR if I do a lot of riding through extreme altitude changes, as the auto-tune would self adjust when needed and pay for itself for sure. Otherwise, simply adding pipes and a heavy breather, the stock dyno tune the dealership adds is more than sufficient and saves the extra $400 until other mods are made that can actually take advantage of the tuner.

Can anyone else chime in on this and confirm if this was accurate and solid info? I tend to believe it's solid advise as it makes sense and they turned down the sale of a $400 Harley Auto-tune.

good buddy at harley here told me they like to use powervision as replacement for SEPROTune. He said he thought the FP3 was good for most uses until you get into a heavy rebuild.
