Hi, I have a question regarding my new RGS. Dealer will have it ready for me by Wed. My question is in regards to a stage 1 upgrade. He is offering to do the stage 1 including Vance and Hines Monster Ovals, true dual headers, Screaming Eagle basic air kit upgrade and Vance and Hine FP3 tuner...all for $2k installed. I priced the parts out and it comes to roughly $1600 before tax and shipping.
Question: Is this a good deal? I normally do work like this myself with the help of a few friends but I bought the extended warranty and dont want to jeapordize voiding it. 2nd Question: I called the warranty service and they said if I used ANYTHING other than the Street Tuner I will most likely void the warranty if there is any engine related issue down the line. If thats true, is there any way the dealer can tell what tuner i used? I know they can tell if its been flashed, but can they tell if its been flashed by a street tuner vs the vance and Hines?

1) If you priced it out at $1600 , then I think the $2000 is fair

2) Who knows ?/ It varies from dealer to dealer . Your installing dealer may honor it , and another down the road may not .. It's not right , but that's the way it is usually ..

my impression wasthat they CAN tell that it has been flashed but they CANNOT tell if it was done with a Screaming Eagle or something else.

Great question

Starting with the mods they want to give you for $$$. Are those mods your choice or theirs? I ask because you may not know that true duals will decrease your bottom end TQ even with a good tune. Large or should I say, too large of a baffle in the muffler will add injury to the dual exhaust TQ loss because a stage 1 stock bike needs exhaust restriction to run properly. Results in the incorrect exhaust system could be catastrophic to your pocket book, riding style and your ears.

Item #2. Extended Warranty Companies will exclude warranty any way they can. They are in the business to make money not pay it out. Tiny and unclear clauses exists in their policies which can eliminate the warranty entirely if you change anything with aftermarket products. There are HD Dealers that will work with you but more than ever the Warranty Companies send inspectors to the bike to see for themselves.

Conclusion... If you want to tune your bike and be able to hide the fact it has been tuned then there is only one flash tuner on the market that I know of that will cover it's tracks completely and it isn't the SEPro. There are plug n play tuners on the market which may or may not satisfy you needs. Only you can answer what your needs are.

which is the flash tuner that your speaking of?
the mods are my idea, I was just looking to get a little rumble out of it. my last bike I had a stage 1 done with a power commander 5 and dyno tune. bike ran great but I paid for it in mpg. I'm just looking to get a little sound out of it but yet keep it on the efficient sideI'm just looking to get a little sound out of it but yet keep it on the efficient side

Seems like a decent deal to me. I think I paid around 1400 for my parts and installed myself. I haven't gotten to pile on a whole lot of miles on mine since the Stage 1, but it seems like my gas mileage is about the same.

Wiz, thanks for the reply and info. I wasn't aware of the TQ loss if I installed true duals. What do you suggest then for a stage1 upgrade. I am looking for a slight increase in sound, performance while keeping the MPG reasonably efficient. Is there a combo of headers,mufflers,air kit and tune you would suggest?

I doubt if you would notice the true dual vs 2-1-2 using the seat of your pants dyno. You might notice a small torque difference going from true duals to a 2-1 or vice versa. That is assuming that both exhausts are on a bike with well tuned maps and the same a/c. You might give fuelmoto or dragos bikeworks a call. They both have a lot of happy customers and are very easy to deal with. I would install the stage 1 myself. Save the cash from the labor to spend on something else. I personally like the powervision but there are lots of good tuners out there. The map I got from fuelmoto was very close and the powervision dialed it in perfectly.
