When I first got my bike I got a tuner for it. Other told me to not use tuners as they will destroy my bike. Later as I added more performance the original tuner could no longer handle it, so I moved up to the PC5. I have been very happy with the PC5. The canned map they gave me for my set up was warm at best and the bike did not run too well. But it got me to the dyno shop alright. Lucky for me it was running rich, so frying the motor was not an issue. but a visit to the dyno and they got things trimmed near perfect now. Plus lots more power and torque. My question, is how can a tuner ruin your bike? I can see if you use the wrong tune you could run lean and fry the motor or run rich and have crappy performance. But as for ruining the motor I need someone to explain that. The people who told me not to use tuners, told me to go TTS instead. What is the logic behind this or is it simply folklore?

I'm sure there are folks more qualified than me that can answer. However, my old Fat Bob had over 100,000 miles with a PCV, and still ran AWESOME! It burned about 1 [x] on the dipstick worth of oil per tank, which I thought was acceptable.

I've had two maps on the Fuelpak on my current Bob. The first was given to the original owner by V&H back when he bought the bike, and IMO it ran a little hot and wasn't ideal. I've since changed to the map that is now suggested by V&H for my setup and the bike runs better. Still some slight decel popping, but cooler and faster.

It seems most bikes I encounter have one tuner or another on them. I was pretty confident with the PCV, but am considering swapping the Fuelpak if I keep the current Bob (as well as the Thunderheader for the V&H pro pipe, because the TH is loud AF).

A tuner is probably one of the most popular mods. Can't be all that bad if done even close to right. But, again, others probably have better answers.

If you are changing your pipes and intake I would say it is a necessity. More air in the motor, more air out. The ECM can't compensate and there will be a lean condition, a tuner adjusts for this.
