Day one, part two:
What a day! I entered the hotel into the Harley Navigation and then ignored it all day long until the end. LOL!
The first day of a long ride is usually the worst day for me because it takes me 3 or 4 hours before I feel like I am actually on a trip and not just a local ride.
I started out following the navigation which had me on US-64 east towards I-24. I didn’t mind it because it is one of those roads that is a divided 4 lane with no traffic at all. I just set the cruise on 2500 RPMs and let it roll.
Of course the GPS wanted me to stay on US-64 until I got to I-24, and then take I-24 through Nashville, but I had other plans.
I got off at SR-41 which goes through Cowan, TN and then climbs the Cumberland Plateau up to Monteagle, TN.
Had to stop in Cowan for
@Uncle Fuzzy and get a photo at the old gas station.
From there I wound my way up the plateau and ignored the GPS many times as I rode all the curves on the plateau working my way to Gruetli-Laager, then 399 to 108 and down off the plateau to Dunlap, TN.
I rode the Sequatchie Valley north to Pikeville and picked up 30 east to cross over another mountain, From there I meandered my way to Ocoee, TN and along the Ocoee River where I got a nice passenger on another bike to take the photo of me.
The plan was to follow the lake on 74 and the turn north on 68 towards Tellico Plains.
I didn’t get far and found myself stuck behind a row of cars that maybe were doing the speed limit, but they weren’t riding my speed limit!
I knew I could get to Tellico Plains by turning north on 30 and then take 315 out of Reliance. I’ve ridden it on the V7III and knew it would be challenging on the Road Glide.
There is no room for error on that road.
After running 30, I took a break in Reliance and snapped a few photos.
This is a functioning gas station, but thankfully I didn’t need any.
Views of the Hiwassee River. There are some nice class 2 rapids on that river. I’ve run it a couple times in my Old Town Cascade canoe.
The old Reliance Watchman’s house.
On both 30 and 315 I pretty much had the roads to myself. Even loaded down I was only limited by my vision and willingness for risk around the blind curves.
Got into Tellico Plains and stopped at the Harley shop to use the facilities and browse.
Then I stopped at the Tellico Beach Drive in for a burger and shake.
They are a cash only restaurant, and I missed out the last time I came through. I was prepared today!
